Our member-led online sessions, which started in 2020, were continued into 2023/24. We adjusted our approach with 2 different regular sessions approximately monthly. We also supported online events and teaching from other related organisations and musicians. This year we ran a full programme of in person events, while continuing to provide revised COVID guidelines for them. Our members attend many festivals and community events where they promote dulcimers, with information and support from the club. We strengthened the relationship with the Morpeth Gathering and in April 2024 at their in-person event we were invited to take part in a concert and run a ‘have a go’ session which was extremely well supported. Shortly after this, in nearby Newcastle we organised our third in-person post COVID Spring Fling event. As part of this initiative, we linked up with the local folk community before and during the event. This included a programmed visit to the well-known Bridge Folk Club. Summary of the main Post COVID, we have now fully returned to our in-person programme of achievements of the charity events, taking account of public health guidelines. during the year We adjusted our Spring Fling event in Newcastle to incorporate a hammered dulcimer tutor. We continued to develop our relationships with the local community for this event, creating a blueprint for future years. Due to rising prices at our current Annual Weekend venue, we carried out a survey among our members to relocate to a former venue in Malvern. This was overwhelmingly supported by the members and we are in negotiations to hold our 2025 event there.

Over the year, there was a 10% increase in members to 344. New members often join having attended beginners’ workshops at festivals or community events. We have also managed to attract some younger members, particularly students who have a discount to attend our Annual Weekend. We published (4) newsletters for members, and a membership directory. We continue to develop our policy documents and operating plan as a basis for a successful and well managed charity.

For the reporting period we had a written reserves policy. This policy sets a reserve of £14,500 for 2023/24, based on potential commitments over the year, as well as cash flow for general expenses.
