I am very pleased to say that the contributions of the community and those of the volunteers running these projects have had a very significant impact upon the lives of both younger and older communities. Some of these projects include the continued sponsorship for education of the gopis, installation of water wells, and distribution of blankets. You will find further details of these projects within this annual report. This truly amazing year was witness to the opening of the Sanatana Dharma Centre in August 2022. Fondly known as “The Mandir”, this has been a project that we have all had a vital role in conceptualizing and developing. With the many festivals and activities that are now held here, we are overjoyed to see it becoming an integral place for our community to come together. Following the Mandir’s inauguration, we have very successfully observed the festivals of Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Diwali. There are many devotees that regularly attend weekly sessions at the centre, including the recitation of Hanuman Chalisa 21 times every Saturday. It is very encouraging to see that the Mandir has begun to attract a wide range of members from the local community. In addition to this, many community schools have been visiting and participating in recitals at the Mandir, hosted by Nabhinandan Das. As a result of his zeal for sharing Vedic education, this program has been very well received by the young students, and we are delighted to see their enthusiastic involvement. I would like to thank Ian Lynch for his chairmanship since 2019 and I feel honoured to have been selected to lead the Trustees. I am eagerly looking forward to welcoming and serving our community. _Naveen Khosla Chairman of the Trustees_ 4 ## LIVE TRUSTEES’ DETAILS _Naveen Khosla with his wife Sadhana_ ## **Naveen Khosla** ## _**(Chairman of the Trustees)**_ Having previously held several Senior Management positions in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Naveen, with the unwavering help and support from his wife Sadhna, have spent many years building the award winning pharmacy chain Medipharmacy Ltd. Naveen and Sadhna have lived, with their 2 sons, most of their life in Croydon and Purley, and understanding that focal point was needed for worship and also to provide service to our community, when asked to become a Trustee, Naveen immediately agreed to serve our community as a Trustee and now Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Naveen and Sadhna have a darling grandson. _Ashwin Soni_ ## **Ashwin Soni** Ashwin Soni, 72, was born in Uganda and has been living in the United Kingdom since 1970. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineering and a Chartered Engineer. He retired in 2010 after 35 years as a senior manager in the Technology and Engineering sectors of Kimberly Clark. He was instrumental in the construction of the £3.4 million Mandir and Community Centre in Crawley. Gurjar Hindu Union, Crawley Community Action, Diver Crawley, and Crawley Inter Faith Network are among the charities he supports in Crawley. ## **Parth Malde** Parth Malde, aged 27, is a disciple of HH Krishna Das and son of Nabhinandan and Jayanti. He has a Masters in Mathematics and is currently working in the accountancy industry. His interests are learning musical instruments such as mridanga and harmonium and playing tennis. _Parth Malde_ 5 ## **Kanu Priya** Kanu Priya Devi Dasi is a self-employed artist and tutor who specalises in painting, decorative painting and is a sculptor. She has been an aspiring devotee from her teens, received harinam diksha in 1998 from Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev Goswami Maharaj and Brahmin initiation in 2019 from the Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj of the Sri Chaitanya Saraswati Math. Kanu Priya had made the murtis in The Mandir in Coulsdon. _Kanu Priya Devi Dasi_ ## **Rajiv Dama** Rajiv was born in Mumbai, India and moved to Croydon in 2010. Rajiv works as a management consultant and tries to apply the Sanatana principles within his work. He has assisted LIVE since 2020 in defining organisational design and strategy. In addition, he regularly volunteers in projects held by the Mandir. Rajiv enjoys listening to music, travelling and carpentry. _Rajiv Dama_ ## **Ghanashyam Master** Ghanashyam Master was born in Gujarat and now lives in North London. He has been a dedicated follower of the Sanatan religion all his life. He is married with two children and is officially retired, yet he assists the Mandir in so many ways, especially during festival times. ## GIVE TRUSTEES’ DETAILS _Trikalajna_ ## **Trikalajna Das** Trikalajna Das was born in Kenya and attended Aston University in Birmingham and studied a B.Sc. (Honours) in Civil and Marine Engineer. In the past he has worked for Dutch, British, and Australian contractors (HBM, Tarmac, Richard Costains). These are a few of the projects he has worked on and accomplished: - Thames Barrier London-inaugurated by the Queen of England and is listed as Monument - Was integral part of the Save Manor Campaign to save Bhaktivedanta Manor temple based in Watford, England - The Glory of India Vedic cultural centre - ISKCON New Delhi - inaugurated by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and is listed as a Monument of India - Constructed temple ISKCON Baltimore-USA ISKCON management leadership since 1982 7 _Nabhinandan & Jayanti_ ## **Nabhinandan & Jayanti** Nabhi and Jayanti have been married for 36 years. Born in Kenya, they retired from working life in 2012. Under the guidance of their spiritual master HH Krishna Das Swami they have been engaged in the last 33 years serving the community to increase the awareness of Vedic principles of life. They primarily founded LIVE in 2019 in order to promote Sanatana Dharma in schools in South London. They are also assisting GIVE and Trikalajna to offer education to the girls of needy family and also establish the provision of water to remote villages in Vrajabhumi, Uttar Pradesh, Bharat (India). In addition the recent incorporation and activities of Dwipa Institute of Vedic Education by Sanjoy is of special interest to them. ## **Priyavrat Das** Priyavrat Das was born in South Africa, and is self employed as an Accountant and Financial Advisor. He is a disciple of HH Krishna Das Swami. He was initiated in 1996. He is currently a Trustee of the Shri Hari Trust in Punjab and assists with Food for Life in South Africa _Priyavrat_ ## **Pundarik Das** Pundarik came to Krishna Consciousness in 1989 and joined as a full time devotee in 1990 under the mentorship of Trikalajna Prabhu. He is mainly connected with publication of scriptures, Vedic education, research in Vaishnava history and preservation of rare manuscripts. ## DIVE TRUSTEES’ DETAILS _Sanjoy Roy_ ## **Sanjoy Roy** Sanjoy Roy studied in the Mayapur Gurukula and graduated with a BBA Degree in 2012 and a LLB Degree in 2021. He started BVGV IN 2000 and RNPV IN 1996. He is a Specialized Legal Consultant and has given much valuable assistance to victims of crime. Sanjoy’s family lives in Mayapur. He is also a managing director for the unique Vastu compliant NITAI NIMAI residential buildings in Mayapur that are better than Western standards. ## **Manideep Rana** Manideep Rana studied in the Vrindavana and Mayapur Gurukuls. He is proficient in 3D animation and graphic design. He is currently Graphics designer for Pzizz Ltd. Manideep is assisting DIVE with office administration. _Manideep Rana_ 9 ## LIVE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES ## **Missions statement of LIVE:** **“To educate and spread Vedic knowledge to children and communities at large with excellence”.** the organisation. To ensure that standards are being met, LIVE appointed Mrs Bakula Bhatt as Senior Child Protection Officer in November 2022. Bakulaben has vast experience in the safeguarding of children as a result of having been a teacher at Old Palace Girls’ School for 20 years Bakulaben will be supported by Archana Sharma. In order to fulfill its mission in 2022, LIVE has conducted the following activities: - School programmes - Children’s services - Online Zoom Seminars to adults and children - Bhajans (devotional songs) - Bharat yatra (spiritual tours in India) The position of Senior Child Protection Officer is completely independent of the trustees, sponsors, committee members, congregation or any person of influence. ## SANATANA DHARMA PRESENTATIONS TO SCHOOLS In 2022, LIVE gave presentations to schools in South London and surrounding areas and the results were as follows: - 82 schools were visited - 40 workshops and 76 assembles performed - Over 23,000 students and teachers heard the message of Sanatana Dharma - 45 Ram Leela dramas were performed by the school children - 245 vegetarian recipe books were distributed to the children - Donations of £1811 were received from the schools including Lord Rama, Sitadevi and Hanuman. Sharing our tradition with others in this way always proves to be a very meaningful and fulfilling experience. The very first school to visit the newly opened Mandir in November 2022, was Smitham Primary School. In this visit, children from Year 3 classes were given an experience of Sanatan worship within the temple. Some of the kind feedback we have received from the schools are as follows: These presentations were very well received both by the children and the adults. The Ramayana dramas in particular were very popular; giving children the opportunity to dress up in the provided costumes and perform a role play of the main characters of Ramayana, 11 _“I am just writing to thank you for your visit to our school on Wednesday. The children were all very much engaged and learnt a lot. The outfits and costumes that you provide are_ _great additions and really help the children to feel the part as they act out the story. Those universal messages of good and light triumphing are always important to share. Thank you again for your time.”_ ## _**Vicki Hewitt Vincent Catholic Primary School 28th November 2022**_ _“Thank you very much for an amazing, informative and engaging assembly on Diwali._ _You kept the children and the staff totally engaged and they all loved the opportunity to sing and participate. Thank you for fitting us into your busy schedule and we look forward to welcoming you back to have an extended assembly with dressing up and all.”_ ## _**Mrs Bama Pari Rushy Meadow Primary Academy 26th November 2022**_ IF ANY SCHOOL WOULD LIKE A PRESENTATION ON HINDUISM PLEASE CONTACT NABHINANDAN DAS ON: 07545 318772 ## **Aspirations for 2023:** **LIVE aims to visit and make presentations to around 150 schools this year.** **LIVE will attempt to draft a book which can be distributed to school children about the basic principles of Sanatana Dharma.** 12 ## LIVE CHILDREN’S SERVICES _by Priti Sudra_ ## **Krishna Children Sanga** Classes take place every Saturday, unless a LIVE festival is being conducted. **Data protection consent forms:** One form per child must be submitted for data protection of the child and all participants in the class (“sanga”). **Staff:** 4 members - Priti Sudra, Purna Shukla, Nabhinandan Das, Ritesh Aswaney **Time:** 5:45pm to 7pm (GMT) **Age of children:** 5 – 13-year-olds **Average attendance:** 14 pastimes, Chalisa translated & recited, Narasimha dev appearance pastime, Ekadashi (the benefits of fasting) - Courses: Shloka recitation – 8 classes, Das Avatars – 6 classes,Sanatana Dharma (26 Weeks) - Festivals of the week announcements - Fun quiz Covering topics on previous class using Quizizz or Mentimeter or Kahoot! - Protection prayer – translated and sung by participants - Japa round ## **Schedule:** - Kirtan singing, turn taking - Participants are welcome to introduce kirtan they sing at home - Bhajan performance - Participant translates and sings bhajans of their choice ## **Hindi classes** - 1 Level 1 – 15 students sat and passed L1 averaged: 92% - 2 Level 2 – 7 students sat and passed L2 – averaged: 90% - 3 Gifts – Hindi text & reading books - Classes – begin with prayers to the guru, Mahabharat pastimes & lessons to learn – 10 classes (Makar Sankranti, Ramayana pastimes, Hanuman ji 13 ## **Impromptu dramas - during festivals** Drama preparation includes narrator, costume director, scripter, music man, the odd crew assistants, and of course, actors and actress ages 6+. The actors learn some impressions within an hour or two of performing live in front of 500+ audience. Learning this philosophy through the Bhakti-Jnana course has been fulfilling on many levels; mentally, emotionally and physically. The in-depth explanations of each chapter, the power that came with reading Sanskrit shlokas and the lessons we learn to apply practically in everyday life gave me the strength and direction to progress both spiritually and materially. After having completed the course, I was given a wonderful opportunity by our dear Nabhinandan Prabhuji and Jayanti Mataji. My gratitude towards them can never be measured as they gave me the chance to preach and speak on the Bhagavad Gita – which is a very rare opportunity. Attempting to speak about and explain the words of the Lord continually inspires me as I am reminded again of everything I learnt, with even more realisation. Preaching the knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita not only helps me to increase my spiritual knowledge, but also allowed me to 16 realise more about myself. It felt very natural to me to present this philosophy; almost as though I was born for the purpose of following it and teaching it to others. I want to express my gratitude to the Bhakti-Jnana course that I was able to learn so much from, through the medium of my supportive and enlightened teachers. Ultimately, I thank Lord Krishna for making His nourishing and merciful words so accessible to us in the form of the Bhagavad Gita. _Pari 8th January 2023_ ## **Bhajans (devotional songs)** Bhajans of Bhaktivinod Thakur (an acharya in the Gaudiya Tradition) Bhaktivinoda Thakur (1838 –1914), a Hindu philosopher, guru and spiritual reformer of Gaudiya Vaishnavism who effected its resurgence in Bharat (India) in late 19th and early 20th century and was hailed by contemporary scholars as the most influential Gaudiya Vaishnava leader of his time. He is also credited, along with his son Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, with pioneering the propagation of Gaudiya Vaishnavism in the West and its eventual global spread through Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Bhaktivinoda Thakur also contribued significantly to the development of Vaishnava music and song in the 19th century. He composed many devotional songs, or bhajans, mostly in Bengali and occasionally in Sanskrit, that were compiled into collections, such as Kalyana-kalpataru (1881), Saranagati (1893) and Gitavali (1893). His bhajans are well known for conveying the essence of Gaudiya Vaishnava teachings in simple language. Karuna Bhandhar Devi, a disciple of HH Krishna Das Swami, and a school teacher of classical Hindustani music in Mauritius sang hundreds of songs of Bhaktivinoda Thakur in 2022. All these bhajans are uploaded on YouTube andwill be included in a Vedic library on LIVE’s website (liveveda. org.uk). _Karuna Bhandhar Devi_ 17 ## **India tour (Bharat yatra)** A HUGE thank you for the Yatra of a lifetime. God knows how many lifetimes! What a beautiful spiritual journey it was, full of bliss. I learned so much about the holy places, Temples, Kundas (ponds), Holy Rivers and much more. There are so many treasured moments that I rejoice when I start mediating on them. Below are just a few of them. ## **Sridham Dwarka, Dwarkadhish & Gomti River** The highlight for me was bathing in Gomti Mai River and then going to the Dwarkadish temple to take darshan of all the deities. We also visited a local temple and rode on camelback too! ## **Somnath** Here we visited Bhalka Tirtha temple, which is the location where the arrow of the poacher named Jara hit Lord Krishna. We also visited the great beautiful Somnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. ## **Sridham Mayapura** The highlight of this Dham was taking darshan of Pancatattva, Lord Nrisingha Dev, Srila Prabhupada and Radha-Madhav alonsgide the eight principle Gopis. We stayed in the Conch Bhavan right next to the temple. It was at Mayapura that I was blessed to take a bath in Mother Ganga for the first time in my life, which was very close to the complex. We also visited some smaller temples outside the complex including the “Birthplace of Harinam Sankirtan”. I was blessed to sing in this holiest of holy temples. Didn’t see that coming. ## **Haridwar and Rishikesh** Sightseeing here was truly fulfilling and breath-taking. The highlight for me was the snan (bathing) in Mother Ganga at Hari Ki Pauri, and feeding devotees. While sightseeing I would take every opportunity to go for another snan in Mother Ganga with Nabhi Prabhu. It is so true…. When mercy comes it truly comes flowing. Ganga Arati in the evening was just icing on the cake with so many devotees from different Sampradayas taking part. 18 ## **Vrindavan** Just when I thought bathing in rivers was over, I was again blessed to bathe in Yamun Mai in Vrindavan. I even managed to do a 7km Parikrama of Vrindavan which is a must for all devotees. We stayed at the Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir for a week exploring the complex and visiting many local temples. Some of the temples we had darshan of include Sri Gopinath, Sri Radha Gokulananda, Sri Radha Raman and Sri Radha Damodar. Another location that really touched me was Sri Seva Kunj where Krishna used to engage in seva (selfless service) of Radharani and helped her get ready for Raas Leela. Although I had watched videos online before the Yatra nothing beats the actual darshan. ## **Govardhan Hill, Radha Kund and Shyam Kund** By the time we got to Govardhan Hill my heart was already fulfilled with the Yatra experience so far. The 22Km Govardhan Hill Parikrama was definitely worth it with so much to see. During the Parikrama I had darshan of Govinda Kund, Radha Kund, Shyam Kund and finally Kusum Sarovar. ## **Barsana/ Nandagoan/ Vrinda Kund** Towards the end of the Yatra I visited the birthplace of Radharani, saw Nandagaon from a distance and tookdarshan of Vrinda Kund. In Barsana I got to see the work done by GIVE with regards to sponsoring young girls in education, tree planting and creating wells for the poor. 19 ## ANNUAL REVIEW OF THE MANDIR ## **Renovation works completed** Raocon Ltd completed the renovation of the Mandir to a high standard in August 2022. It began in November 2021. LIVE thanks Rao and his team on their excellent work and commitment, and gives thanks to Haresh Shah and his son, Gopal Shah, for the many long hours spent on ensuring that the Mandir was delivered to the Community in a timely fashion and to a highspecification, some of highlights are as follows: - Front of Mandir - Disabled access is available thanks to the funding from the National Lottery - Beautiful altar - Underfloor heating - Designer roof with skylights ## **Festivals & regular events at the Mandir** _by Sanjana Idnani - aged 20_ - Celebrating spiritual and cultural events has been at the forefront of the Mandir’s activities this year. After inviting and thanking the sponsors of the Mandir on Balaram Jayanti, The Mandir first opened its doors on the auspicious occasion of Sri Krishna Janmastami on 18[th] August 2022 - On this day, beautiful deities of RadheShyam (Krishna) were installed and inaugurated into the Mandir and a fullfledged event to celebrate the festival was held at the Coulsdon Community Centre throughout the afternoon and evening. These beautiful Deities were made by Kanupriya and sponsored by Mrs Ramila Patel This set the tone for the Mandir’s first six months. **----- Start of picture text -----**

- On Diwali, we observed the installation ceremony of Sita and Lord Rama deities, giving the devotees the opportunity to take darshan from and serve Sita, Rama Lakhsman and Hanuman as well as Radha Krishna. These beautiful Deities were also made by Kanupriya and sposored by Drs Jyoti & Rajesh Rathod Since then. We have held events to celebrate - Diwali - Radha Ashtami - Gita Jayanti - Kartik Maas - Tulsi Vivah - New Year’s Day Makar Sankranti, children were given the opportunity to make kites to welcome in the Spring and Harvest season. Our events have been a great opportunity to bring the Sanatana community together and spread the word about The Mandir. At our bigger events such as Holi, Ram Navmi. Janmastami and Diwali, we see an attendance of 200-300 people. At smaller events such as our New Year’s Day event, we still see around 70-100 people. These events usually involve bhajans, drama and dance, and an opportunity to learn more about the festival and the pastimes associated with it. For example, at our most recent event, The trustees appointed Sachin Bagla to manage the Mandir, who in turn has set up a committee to assist running the Mandir. We have also had a 2-day discourse on “The Purpose And Meaning of Human Life” from Maa Raseshvari Deviji at the Mandir who is a follower of Kripalu Maharaj ji from Vrindavan. This was organised by by Drs Jyoti & Rajesh Rathod who make great efforts for Sanatan Dharma on every occasion. ## **Regular Events** The Mandir has also launched a series of more regular events since we opened in August 2022. - Every Saturday, The Mandir hosts the recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa between 10-12 noon, which is very well attended. - On Sunday evenings, there is a Patanjali Yoga class run by one of our devotees, Supriya Kamat. - Marathi bhajans are being organised on a periodic basis. - Bhajans are being organised on the first Friday of every month and there are also plans to start bhajans on the first Thursday of every month. **A bit more about Sanjana:** I got involved with LIVE during my time at university when the pandemic had changed my expectations for my experience there and really had me considering the purpose of life and what I should be striving for. I attended online Bhagavad Gita classes with Nabhiji and found they really spoke to me and made the messages of the Gita relevant to my life. I felt passionately that giving this access to young people would be transformative and got involved with teaching youth sessions and helping with youth leela at events. I hope to expand on this within the Mandir. In November 2022 Smithan Primary School visited the Mandir and the children were shown a presentation on Sanatana Dharma, which included the following: - How to enter the Mandir (taking off shoes) - Introducing them to the Deities - Demonstration of Aarti and its purpose - Yoga and pranayama exercises chanting Aum - Chanting the Hare Krishna MahaMantra and dancing - Each child is also offered prasad (a blessed piece of fruit) which is always kindly donated by members of the community. 23 ## **Overall Plans for the Mandir in 2023** We want to make the Mandir a platform for all Sanatana communities to come together to celebrate festivals and traditions. - Learn about the traditions of other communities and encourage diversity by joining local inter-faith groups. - Educate children and grown-ups on Vedic education and Sanatana way of life. - Our plans for 2023 include a full. - Calendar of events. - Organise discourses from eminent Katha vachaks and thinkers across diverse communities. - Enhance the daily Seva coverage of Seva slots by devotees. - Set up a youth group. - Use technology to engage children and younger devotees at the Mandir. - Enhance our social and web presence and run consistent email campaigns using our database of devotees. ## **The aim of establishing the Mandir is to:** - Educate our future generations about Vedic philosophy and practice. - Try to Unite the Hindu community to come together - Establish a centre of excellence for Sanatan Dharma wherein the whole Hindu community can collectively and individually serve to their heart’s content. - Stepping stone for more and bigger hubs of Sanatan Dharma - Set-up cultural/educational/community projects. - Liaise with the local community for its needs. **----- Start of picture text -----**

LIVE has now been regularly providing food to those in need for over two years, approximately once every month. With social distancing and Covid restrictions easing in 2022, the project gained many new volunteers including some very young people, (A-Level and University Students) who have been getting involved along with the veterans of the team. It has been extremely joyful to see young people wishing to make a difference and helping to support those in need. We welcome all people, all age groups, to reach out to us if you are interested in getting involved. With the growing team of volunteers. LIVE has continued to cook and collect meals and we have served many delicious meals of pasta, biryani, samosas, salads, cakes and more to those in need. There was also a distribution of warm gloves to the homeless in December 2022. Through this project many people have contacted us privately after their family functions to find out how they can deliver surplus food for distribution. This has been graciously received by the Nightwatch Team. Once again, it is simply impossble to name everyone who has been involved in this project as we have an ever growing army of volunteers,but needless to say - they know who they are and how much joy they are bringing to the lives of people around them. Their support is much appreciated and no doubt without them - there would be no homeless seva project. 28 ## **Plans for 2023** For 2023 we wish to expand the projects in the following ways - Have a monthly collection of long-life food items (tins, cereal boxes etc) at The Mandir which will be distributed to local food banks and homeless projects. We would like to encourage volunteers to be involved with collecting, donating, sorting and delivering the food items. bought themselves. This is what keeps me inspired to keep serving the project year after year. We do not collect money for this project - we work solely based on people volunteering, cooking and donating food items or non-food items, which they have _Janaki Mehta_ 29 ## GOVARDHAN INSTITUTE FOR VEDIC EDUCATION _By Trikalajna Das_ ## **What is Goverdhan Institute for Vedic Education (“GIVE”)?** The GIVE Trust was founded jointly by Nabhinandan Das and Trikalajna Das with the blessings of saints of Braj Vinod Baba, Ramesh Baba, Balarama Baba, Pamanabh Goswamiji and Achyutalal Bhattaji with a view to serve the Brajwasis (“residents of Vrindavan”) in all possible ways and to address the various issues faced by the Brajwasis. GIVE believes in the motto that ‘serving Brajwasis is non-different from serving Radha and Krishna’. Together with London Institute of Vedic Education, GIVE’s objectives and aspiration are as follows: ## **Sponsoring Gopis (Brajwasi girls)** Due to rising inflation/ cost of living and the traditional mindset, the villagers generally don’t educate their daughters, and get them married at a tender age of 10-12 years; such girls never manage to attend school because of lack of financial support. To address this issue, in 2022 GIVE has sponsored 265 Brajwasi girls (“gopis”) across Braj (which includes schools in Vrindavan, Barsana, Govardhan, Chatikara etc). £200 per Gopi covers the tuition fees along with books, stationery, school uniform etc for the full academic year. We also provide basic food items and medical help to the poor Gopi families to ensure that their basic needs are met and the gopis are not prematurely married (or made to work for basic needs) so that they get at least the basic minimum education (both material as well as spiritual). 30 GIVE adopts a detailed student selection process to ensure that the gopis that require the most help get the assistance, and also monitors the progress of students through meetings with parents, school teachers, principals on a regular basis. GIVE ensures that schools wherein the gopis are sponsored learn Vedic knowledge by reciting Bhagavat Gita skolas, chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and having regular kirtan programs/ lectures. Also, students who show interest in understanding spirituality are encouraged and given further guidance. **Aspirations for 2023: GIVE plans to expand the number of gopis it sponsors to 400.** ## **Installation of Water Wells and Forest Restoration** Due to rising inflation and cost of living, the villagers have almost cut all the trees to get more agricultural land/ food produce. Such agricultural practices in the villages of Braj are contributing to a looming water crisis. There is shortage of sweet water suitable for drinking for the villagers in almost 500 villages in Braj. Also, due to lack of resources, there are not even enough tube wells in villages to meet the requirement of the villagers. For example, in Kashi Nagla near Dalota village which is around 20 kms from Vrindavan there is no water well and the villagers have to travel 2-3 kms to get water. So far, GIVE has installed 23 tube wells and planted more than 250 trees, working closely with Gram Panchayat and Pradhans of the village to ensure water wells and forest restoration work takes place with the support of the local villagers. **Aspirations for 2023: GIVE has identified villages/ Naglas in and around Govardhan, Dauji (Baldeo), Sehi, Parkam, Chaumuha, Mukarai, Kunjera wherein there is a need to install tube wells as well as plant trees.** **GIVE is planning to install 108 water wells on the Braj Chaurasi Kos Parikrama (Spiritual Ring Road of Braj).** 31 After 2023, GIVE also plans to restore the pokhers (mini lakes) and wells in the villages of Braj; if there are no pokhers or wells, we plan to build at least 4 pokhers and 4 wells in each village to ensure rain water utilization and to solve the problem of water of the villages. ## **Supporting Small Gaushalas (cowsheds)** Based on our experience, we understand that in small gaushalas (with not more than 10 cows) the cows are cared for in much better conditions as compared to big gaushalas having thousands of cows. Support to such small gaushalas run by poor brajwasis is a key to promote cow based (organic) farming as well as cow protection. GIVE supports 13 such small gaushalas in Braj region. GIVE and LIVE has continued its support to the Radhakanta Gaushala situated in Radhakund. **Aspirations for 2023: To adopt 20 gaushalas** ## **Adopted Cows** Donors also have the opportunity to donate Pure Breed Desi cows to the local poor Brajabasis or to the Goshala’s run by the poor Brajabasis or to the Brahmins of Braja with respect to their ancestral scriptural guidance. During the year, 7 pure breed desi cows were donated and some of these cows have even given birth to calves. Some of donors are Pratibha Mehta, Arti, Shukla, Ragini Patel and Sat prabhu. These cows are specially picked and donated to gaushalas who will maintain and take excellent care of them. GIVE provides the opportunity to donate a cow out of one’s love for cows. Pure Breed Desi Cows can cost from INR 70000 (approximately £700) onwards depending on the age and health of the cows ## **Aspirations for 2023:** **To avail the opportunity to others to also donate cows as recommended by Garuda Purana** 32 ## **Ration and Food Distribution** Due to extreme poor financial conditions and many family members, some villagers find it difficult to feed their children a healthy and nutritious diet. GIVE provides basic ration kits to such families. GIVE sponsors food and prasadam distribution on a regular basis.GIVE organized a big feast serving prasadam to around 3000050000 people on Radhastami in Barsana. GIVE also distributed 30000 laddus on the occasion of Lathmar Holi. GIVE distributed prasadam to around 2500 people (including Mahants of Temples of Vrindavan) on Vrindavan Parikrama Marg during Janmashtami. GIVE also arranges special prasadam for blind people and widows in Braj. GIVE also does food distribution on special occasions/ tithis (like birthdays, shraddha etc) to brahmanas/ sadhus. **Aspirations for 2023:** **To organise monthly distribution of provisions to the needy family in Braj.** ## **Distribution of Blankets and Medical Assistance** GIVE distributed around 4000 blankets in the winters of 2022 and beginning of 2023 to the poor in the Braj region. Due to lack of medical facilities in villages, GIVE distributes First Aid kits as well as sponsoring medical operations/ treatments of poor brajwasis/ sadhus. For example, GIVE recently sponsored the prostrate operation of a sadhu, who was extremely grateful because he was in severe pain. **Aspirations for 2023: To distribute 5000 blankets by the end of the 2023.** 33 ## **Restoration of Ancient Temples/ Places of Worship in Braj** GIVE’s first project of renovation of Tulsi Das Bhajan Kutir was successfully completed and we now hold regular preaching programs there. GIVE has also provided water facilities in Braj Mohan Temple of Narottama Das Thakur in Gyangudri, Vrindavan.The ashram as well as the pilgrims are benefited by the same. ## **Aspirations for 2023:** **To seek out further important places to renovate.** ## **Weddings** Vedic marriages are a big part of our colourful and meaningful tradition. However weddings are often a financial challenge for some families even if they do the best minimum exchanges. The GIVE team ethically scrutinises the financial situation of those who request assistance and contributes either partially or fully depending on their circumstances. A simple marriage can cost up to Rs 3 lakhs. Marriage becomes a burden as the dowry system is only abolished on paper. So, the girls are neglected when it comes to education. A decent Bengali medium education is a big challenge for girls, and English medium education is only a dream for a few. Through proper education opportunities and guidance, both materially and spiritually a child will grow to have a good future and also be our future. The simple but challenging concept is to uplift as many children as possible, among the financially challenged families of the Nabadwip/Nadia district of West Bengal. DIVE was formed in the year 2022 by Sanjoy Roy and Manideep Rana with the blessing of Nabhinandan Das, who is the pillar of support and encouragement and in collaboration with LIVE.
