The pandemic was still in full flow and we were continuing with our daily Zoom seminars. Then in February 2021 an exciting opportunity was provided to us by Haresh Shah to purchase a Synagogue and convert it into a Sanatan Dharma Centre. By the wonderful support of the Hindu community we were able to raise the funds to buy the property and work has began to renovate the Centre to a very high standard which the whole community will be proud of and will be a legacy for the future generations. In June 2021, Sriman Trikalajna, who lives in Vrindavan offered us an opportunity to sponsor the education of girls (gopis) from poor backgrounds. The condition of these gopis are usually very challenging as they may be married off at an early age and have little prospects of living a life to their full potential. Here was a chance for us to make a difference and by the end of 2021, 250 gopis were sponsored, again thanks to the kind donations of the community. We are planning to continue and increase our support for the gopis going forward. In Vrindavan Trikalajna also initiated a project of installing water wells in remote villages where the villagers do not have access to water, with walking for miles to get water. LIVE again helped to facilitate the installation of some 17 water wells in 2021 and many more are planned in the future. We have also adopted Goshalla and gaumatas, provided blankets for the needy during biting winter season, feeding and providing the raw ingredients for the poor families to cook themselves and provided for the distribution of spiritual books. In addition to celebrating the festivals of Shree Krishna Janmastami and Diwali, which were very successful, and the presentation of 750 online sessions, we also attended 78 schools in South London, in the autumn term of 2021, presenting Sanatan Dharma to over 18,800 children and teachers. This is the core objective of LIVE. In your service, ## **Nabhinandan Das & Jayanti Devi** 5 4 Annual Report 2021 - 1: Trustees details Annual Report 2021 - 1: Trustees details ## **LIVE Trustees Details** ## **Ian Lynch - Chairman of the trustees** Ian Lynch, 56 years old, is a specialist in Graphic and Website Design. Over the years Ian has helped with printing artwork and magazines for us and working with charities. ## **Ashwin Soni** Ashwin Soni, 72, was born in Uganda and has been living in the United Kingdom since 1970. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineering and a Chartered Engineer. He retired in 2010 after 35 years as a senior manager in the Technology and Engineering sectors of Kimberly Clark. ~~**1**~~ He was instrumental in the construction of the £3.4 million Mandir and Community Centre in Crawley. He is married with three adult children, daughters in-law, son in-law, and two adorable grandchildren. Gurjar Hindu Union, Crawley Community Action, Diver Crawley, and Crawley Inter Faith Network are among the charities he supports in Crawley. Music, dancing, delicious cuisine, and playing with the grandchildren are some of his favourite pastimes. ## **Parth Malde** Parth Malde is a disciple of HH Krishna Das Son of Nabhinandan and Jayanti. Masters in Mathematics, working in financial industry. Interests are learning musical instruments such as mridanga and harmonium and playing tennis. ## **Naveen Khosla with his wife Sadhana** Naveen is the CEO of Medipharmacy Ltd - a pharmacy chain that operates in South East England. “I am proud to be a trustee and would like to see the centre to be the focus of our community.” ## **Kanu Priya Devi Dasi** Kanu Priya Devi Dasi is a self-employed artist and tutor who specalises in painting, decorative painting and sculptor. She has been an aspiring devotee from her teens, received harinam diksha 1998 from Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev Goswami Maharaj and Brahmin initiation 2019 from the Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj of the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math. 6 7 Annual Report 2021 - 1: Trustees details Annual Report 2021 - 1: Trustees details ## **GIVE Trustee Details** ## **Trikalajna Das** Trikalajna Das was born in Kenya and attended Aston University in Birmingham and studied a B.Sc. (Honours) in Civil and Marine Engineer. In the past he has worked for Dutch, British, and Australian contractors (HBM, Tarmac, Richard Costains). These are a few of the projects he has worked on and accomplished: - Thames Barrage London - inaugurated by the Queen - of England and is listed as Monument - The Glory of India Vedic cultural centre - Iskcon New - Delhi - inaugurated by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and is listed as a Monument of India ## **Nabhi and Jayanti** Nabhi and Jayanti have been married for 36 years. Born in Kenya, they retired from working life in 2012. Under the guidance of their spiritual master HH Krishna Das Swami they have been engaged in the last 33 years serving the community to increase the awareness of Vedic principles of life. They primarily founded LIVE in 2019 in order to promote Sanatan Dharma in schools in South London.They are also assisting GIVE and Trikalajna to offer education to the girls of needy family and also establish the provision of water to remote villages in Vrajabhumi, Uttar Pradesh, Bharat (India). - Constructed temple ISKCON Baltimore - USA - ISKCON management leadership since 1982 - Trustee & Founder of Govardhan Institute For Vedic - Education (GIVE) - Educating children; especially girls from poor families - Distributing Ration and Medicines to the needy - Installing water pumps in rural villages ## **Priyavrat Das** Priyavrat Das was born in South Africa, and is self employed as an Accountant and Financial Advisor. He is a disciple of HH Krishna Das Swami. He was initiated in 1996. # **2** ## **“Bhakti - Jnana Course for children”** On the 11th of July 2021, we started an online Bhagavad Gita course for children on Sunday afternoons. 55 children started the course, which lasted for 26 weeks and covered all the chapters of Bhagavad Gita, and I am happy to announce that 30 children successfully completed the course. The sessions included the children reading the English translations of a chapter of the Gita, summary of the chapter and lesson to learn provided by the course facilitator, Sanjana and Nabhinandan Das, followed by Q&A and ending with a quiz on the previous week’s chapter. All the children were outstanding but special mention needs to be made of the following star students: **Parineeta Juneja** (aged 16) **Ishvari Mutty** (aged 12) **Kishori Mutty** (aged 11) **Shreenitya Mukerjee** (aged 7) **Riyansh Vuppala** (aged 8) **Lokeshwara Kuoch** (aged 9) The students have been awarded “Distinction” or “Merit” certificates according to their performance and attendance during the course. 10 11 Annual Report 2021 - 3: School programmes Annual Report 2021 - 3: School programmes ## **School programmes** By the grace of Guru and Govinda, LIVE conducted an Autumn 2021 School Marathon and the results are as follows: ## **Review from one of the schools:** Dear Nabhi, - 78 schools were visited - 62 workshops and 65 assembles performed - Over 18,800 students and teachers heard the message of Sanatan Dharma - 57 Ram Leela dramas were performed by the school children - 22 Bhagavad Gitas distributed to the teachers - 1480 Higher Tastes distributed to the children Thank you so much for last week’s assembly. The children were totally engaged and loved the opportunity to sing! The children were talking about the school felt very happy to have Diwali celebrated in this way. With this in mind, on the 8th of February, 2021, Haresh Shah and his family gave us an opportunity to change this and build a place of worship for the community in Surrey. They had just exchanged on a synagogue in Coulsdon for the purchase price of £200,000. Their original intention was to purchase the property with a view of obtaining planning permission to build six flats on the land and then sell the land with planning permission for £600,000. However, they also had a vision to leave a spiritual legacy of Sanatana Dharma for future generations. They reached out to us so see if we would like to complete the purchase for £200,000 and open a Sanatan Centre, with a view of renovating the hall making it fit for purpose as a place of worship. - **5** Even though we were in the middle of a pandemic, we kindly accepted the challenge and with the generous help of the Hindu community, friends, and family of LIVE Trustees and Committee, we were able to raise the necessary funds. On Thursday 25th March 2021, the property has been acquired by LIVE Temple Estates CIC. ## **Site photos** ## **Documented on 9th November, 2021** The Centre is located at 108, Chipstead Valley Road, CR5 3BA. The first image here is the main entrance of the site. It was built in 1950 with concrete blocks with no proper insulation. The interior of this building has a good sized hall space with a kitchen counter setup at the very end. At the rear end of this hall there’s a door which leads to toilets and also a door which connects to the rear side of the building. The rear side of the building has these steep stairs leading to an open terrace like space, which is covered in leaves and dust. 23 22 Annual Report 2021 - 5: Santan Centre Coulsdon Annual Report 2021 - 5: Santan Centre Coulsdon ## **Documented on 13th November, 2021** As days passed by, the workers slowly started taking down the interior partition walls, which gave us more space. These pictures are from the rear side of the building where the five trees were present and now cleared and the whole area is ready for the scaffolding. ## **Documented on 16th & 23rd November, 2021** Removal of the roof: Asbestos is a harmful substance which is used in several different places in a building for insulation. This substance was removed by the specialist from the roof safely. The roof is slowly being taken down as it can be seen in these images. The roof has been taken down completely and the ready made trusses have arrived to the site. 24 25 Annual Report 2021 - 5: Santan Centre Coulsdon Annual Report 2021 - 5: Santan Centre Coulsdon ## **Documented on 1st, 7th & 17th December, 2021** The new roof trusses have been put up and also for the interior waterproof sheets sheets were inserted under the timber wall battens. By the 17th of December 2021, the timber structure layouts for the bathrooms and the shower were constructed. The bathrooms and the shower will be located at the entrance, right before you enter further into the mandir. The waterproof insulation sheets were fixed on to the walls. The cavities on the walls are created to install the windows and the bi-fold doors. ## **Documented on 17th December, 2021** The rooflight is being installed. Left side of the roof: Roof tiles are attached and it is nearly done. The gutters have been installed throughout the whole roof. Roof tiles are half way done in the right part of the roof. The renovation works are planned to be completed by April 2022. However at the date of publishing this annual report it is likely that the opening of the centre will take place on Balaram Jayanti which falls on Friday, 12th August 2022. 26 27 Annual Report 2021 - 6: Goverdhan Institute for Vedic Education Annual Report 2021 - 6: Goverdhan Institute for Vedic Education ## **Goverdhan Institute for Vedic Education “GIVE”** ## **What is GIVE?** This trust was founded jointly by Nabhinandan Das and Trikalajna Das with blessings of saints of Braj Vinod Baba, Ramesh Baba, Balaram Baba, Padmanabh Goswamiji and Achyutalal Bhatta Ji. Together with London Institute of Vedic Education, GIVE’s objectives and aspiration are as follows: ## **Supporting the education of Gopis (Girls):** Mostly farmers or labourers are poor in the Vrajadham area. Thus financially impaired, many struggle to meet day to day living costs which hinders the Gopis’ right to education, example, there is a girl with deaf and dumb parents, who struggle to send their child to school. The child is now adopted by her aunt who has a petty job. GIVE is now supporting their child to get an education. - **6** ## **Installation of water pumps:** Rural reformation by afforestation projects and installation of better water sources in the form of tube wells and boreholes, especially in the villages in and around Vrindavan, Barsana and Goverdhan. ## **Provision of blankets** Assisting the widows in Braj Dham by the provision of blankets and clothing. Winters are particularly harsh in Vrindaban and GIVE has provided over 2500 blankets in the winter of 2021 to the needy people. ## **Restoring historical and spiritual insignificant artifacts and temples** GIVE is currently restoring and renovating Sri Tulsi Das Bhajan Kutir in Vrindavan which was in a dilapidated state for quite sometime. 28 Annual Report 2021 - 7: Sponsoring Gopis education Annual Report 2021 - 7: Sponsoring Gopis education **----- Start of picture text -----**

## **Sponsoring Gopis education** Conceived and inspired by the spiritual and social reformists Ramesh and Vinod Babaji. Together with LIVE, GIVE is supporting the education of Gopis who come from needy families: **251 students received their tuition fees from GIVE, in 2021.** ## **Process of Student Selection** **Step 1:** Setting up camps and registering the students interested. **Step 2:** Setting up interviews with the students and their parents. **Step 3:** Thorough counselling session with the parents and cross checking the student’s credentials. **Step 4:** Meeting the schools and colleges to understand their modus operandus explaining how we intend to support their students. **Step 5:** Cross-verification through phone call, both student and the school/college. - **7** **Step 6:** Getting details from schools/colleges and processing the payment for individual students. **Step 7:** Preparing and maintaining books of each student. **Step 8:** Giving the students Bhagavad Gita and other spiritual books and educating them on the importance of balancing spiritual and material life. 30 31 Annual Report 2021 - 8: Installation of water wells Annual Report 2021 - 8: Installation of water wells ## **Installation of water wells** ‘Goverdhan Institute of Vedic Education’ installed hand pumps in the Astasakhi villages and distributed blankets to the girls they had adopted earlier. There has always been shortage of fresh drinking water in these villages, hence GIVE and LIVE came together to provide water to the villagers. Hand pumps were installed in Kamai, Chiksoli, Rakoli, Dabala, Unchagaon and Sunehra villages solving the drinking water problem. Pandit Baba said that by the grace of saints, GIVE and LIVE are supporting the education of the young girls of Vraj and they didn’t stop at that, they’ve installed hand pumps in the Astasakhi villages, that shows their service attitude. Hand pumps installed in the Astasakhi villages & blankets were distributed (Hindustan, 20th December 2021). ## **If anyone would like to sponsor a well then these are the costings:** - **8** � Installation of hand pump - £700 - Installation of electric pump - £1000 - � Dakshina for priest - £50 - Dakshina for village Gopikas - £100 - Feast for village - £350 - Total cost of Hand-Pump - £1150 GIVE works closely with the Local Panchayats and leaders to understand how we could assist in the practical reformation in our field of operation. We learned that water is a big issue when interacting with the local leaders. Due to a lack of infrastructure, villagers struggle to access water for drinking and carrying out their household chores. We are now undertaking projects to try to rectify this problem. GIVE obtains a letter of authority for tube wells from the local pradhan. Apart from providing better water sources, GIVE is working on various afforestation and rural landscaping projects to enhance the environmental balance in rural areas. On the outskirts of Vrindavan, upon finalizing the site, the land is being drilled for tube well installation. Upon finishing a tube well site, the workers clear out the land to install the tube well. GIVE first finds the point where groundwater is accessible, then does proper testing, then, with the permission of local administrators, installs wells, tube wells and boreholes so that the water deficiency problem to an extent is resolved. Our entire team works with state of the art equipment to optimise efficiency. GIVE is pleased to be an instrument in making the lives of the villagers better. GIVE with local leaders inaugurating a tube well site. In association with LIVE, GIVE installed over ten tube wells in different villages around Vrindavan. Gifting gaumata is a very auspicious act. Kuveri Mata This is one of the cows. She has just given birth. The second picture is Gauri. **9** GIVE and LIVE have adopted the Radhakanta Goshala situated in Radha Kund and they are supporting and maintaining local Goshalas that are very small. Six other Goshalas are also supported in Vrindaban. Happy cows of the Radhakanta Gosala, Radha Kund are pictured. The primary Brahmins of Vrindavan came and acknowledged our services to the Brajabasis and they also gave a certificate for the same. # **13** 38 39 Annual Report 2021 - 14: Food distribution SEVA Croydon Annual Report 2021 - 14: Food distribution SEVA Croydon ## **Food distribution SEVA Croydon** Since December 2020, enthusiastic volunteers have been working alongside Nightwatch Croydon to provide hot meals to those in need. People in need include the homeless, those with financial challenges etc. It started on Christmas Eve of 2020 when we did our first volunteer work of providing a full meal and wrapped Christmas gifts of warm hats, gloves and socks. The gifts and hot food were hugely appreciated. Since then, we have tried to maintain the volunteer work every month. so many, and each one has made this fantastic project successful. It is also worth mentioning we started this project at the peak of Covid. Despite the lockdowns, social distancing and fear, many volunteers selflessly gave their time and energy to serve food to those in need and continue to do so. A huge thank you to everyone involved, and may we keep this project running for many more years to come. ## **Written by Janaki Mehta** The hot meals cooked by various volunteers include curry and rice, pasta, and mixed vegetable rice. These main meals are always accompanied by snacks such as samosas, freshly baked cakes, crisps, cereal bars, chocolate juice packets, and plenty of fresh fruit. The clients at Nightwatch Croydon look forward to the days when our group cooks, and very recently, someone receiving the food told me that it was the best curry and rice he has ever had. He kept asking me to convey his compliments to the chef. Over the last year, we have had exciting projects such as Diwali with Nightwatch, when we arranged for gift bags for the homeless and other donors and temples in Croydon. These gift bags included hats, socks, gloves, chocolates, and toiletries, and the actual gift bag can be used as a backpack. During Diwali, we also had a spontaneous volunteer session where after the LIVE Sanatan Temple Diwali event, there was leftover food. We were able to distribute this all to those in need. Selvan’s father made the arrangements locally buying, transport in a small lorry and delivering to the people in Mannar as follows: - Distribution of a total of 4,421 spiritual books like the Bhagavad Gita - and other small books in Tamil to children and teachers in schools. - Started in Kilinichi Maha Vidhiyala: 1000 small vedic books. - Central College in Jaffna: 800 spiritual books. - Selvipuram: 150 books & 160 ladoos (sweet). � Murasumoddai primary school: 150 small spiritual books, 2 Bhagavad Gitas. 2 Bhagavad Gitas. � Saraswathi Vidyalaya in Amparai: 390 small spiritual books, 15 Bhagavad Gitas to teachers. � Vishnu Vidyalaya: 650 spiritual books to students on BG advent day, 18 Bhagavad Gitas. � Jayapura, Kilinochi: 400 Krishna books to students. � Chembankundru Primary school: 36 Krishna books to students. � Muzhangavil Central College: 650 Krishna books to students. � Cow protection � Two Gomathas were sponsored and donated to a single mum, who will look after them and she gives milk to local primary school kids. **15** 43 42 Annual Report 2021 - 16: Festivals Annual Report 2021 - 16: Festivals ## **Festivals** In 2021, two major festivals were celebrated: ## **Diwali** - The occasion of Diwali was celebrated at Wallington High School - for Girls on Saturday 30th October 2021 and attended by 300 devotees. ## **Shree Krishna Janmastami** - The birthday of Lord Krishna was celebrated on Monday 30th - August 2021 at the Coulsdon Community Centre. - A stage programme starting with prayers by our priest, Sriman - Prashanth Joshi, followed by dances, bhajans and Ram Leela entertained the devotees. - Over 500 devotees attended the festivities which began at 12noon - with bhajans (mainly by Bharatiji Sethi’s wonderful group), dances (organised by Dr Jyotiben Rathod), abhisekh (bathing ceremony) - The Mayor of Croydon attended this divine celebration. - Awards were given by the trustees of LIVE to devotees who - of Shree Shree Radha Krishna and Ladoo Gopal, followed by Arati. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. ## **It is my responsibility to:** - examine the accounts under section 43 of the 1993 Act, - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by - the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act, and ## In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention **1.** which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 - of the 1993 Act; and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records - and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act have not been met ; or - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission.
