Hope Church Halifax Trustees’ Annual Report for the period From:01/04/2023 Period start date To: 31/03/2024 Period end date Charity registration number: 1184189 Find us: www.hopehalifax.org

Objectives and Activities:

At Hope Church we are committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church, and to become part of our church family. We are a community of Gods people of all ages, background and temperament and our mission is to make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, baptising them into the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirt. When planning our activities, Hope Church has considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, and in particular the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. Our services and worship put faith into practise through prayer and scripture, music and sacraments. We try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our Church family through:

To facilitate this work, it is vital that we are able to meet in the community that we are servicing.

Trustees are advised of their obligations under charity law and the Charity Commission guidance on trustees' duties, and are informed of the content of the church's constitution.

Achievements and Performance:

Hope Church Halifax CIO have been successful as we have achieved many of our stated aims and performed our duties for the benefit of the public well. This has been mainly achieved through the weekly public worship service.

Highlights include our partnership with to the local primary schools providing teaching on Christianity.

Our weekly kids club and toddler group where we see up to 20 kids from the area come and play games and learn to do life from Jesus. Our midweek meetings where we pray for each other and the local community. Pastoral care for the church and the community at large.

(Studies indicate that religious involvement is correlated with well-being, happiness and life satisfaction; hope and optimism; purpose and meaning in life; higher self-esteem; greater social support and less loneliness; lower rates of depression and faster recovery from depression; lower rates of suicide and fewer positive attitudes towards suicide; less anxiety; less delinquency and criminal activity; greater marital stability and satisfaction. About our Volunteers:

The driving force behind Hope Church activities is our volunteers, who work tirelessly to make our Church a lively and vibrant community.

Our Financial Review:

Hope Church Halifax principally receives its funding from voluntary donations by the members of the church, regular attenders and supporters. Expenditure during the year under review is spent on the ministry costs of the church and the administration and property costs supporting those ministry costs. Ministry is the key objective of the charity, which is principally the preaching of the Gospel in the UK; the pastoral care of the members, regular attenders and visitors to the church; and various outreach activities conducted in the UK.

Income exceeded Expenditures this year by £6,296.41. Hope Church received substantial once off gifts from our supporters which has enabled us to maintain a healthy reserve. Hope Church is servicing in a deprived area in the North of Halifax and income received from regular attendees and visitors equated to 44% of expenditures. Which is an increase of 8% from last year. Given the level of reserves, the trustees consider the charity's results and the financial position of the charity to be satisfactory.

Our Reserves Policy:

The trustees consider that reserves are adequate to cover 10 months expenditure, to act as a buffer fund, and will not be allowed to fall below 8 weeks expenditure. The expected level of funding and reserves will be adequate to support the charity's needs over the next 18 months.

Our Structure, governance and management:

Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO. There must be at least three charity trustees. If the number falls below this minimum, the remaining trustee or trustees may act only to call a meeting of the charity trustees or appoint a new charity trustee. There is no maximum number of charity trustees that may be appointed to the CIO.
