About our charity
Cornwall Refugee Resource Network is a network of organisations and people who work together to ensure that Cornwall provides refuge and sanctuary to those most in need. We celebrate good news stories of how the resettlement of refugees shapes Cornwall for the better and we campaign for positive change in policy and in attitudes, so that people seeking sanctuary and asylum are treated with dignity and fairness. Cornwall Refugee Resettlement Network was established at All Saints Highertown Church, Truro, in 2016 in direct response to the acute crisis caused by the war in Syria and the number of people fleeing from danger. In 2018, CRRN renamed itself Cornwall Refugee Resource Network. On 1st July 2019 CRRN became a registered charity.
Summary of our main activities during 2023

Membership of the Refugee Steering Group Providing advice, consultation and signposting to Cornwall Council and other statutory services as part of the Steering Group forum.

Appointment of a part-time Development Officer (0.4FTE) Leading on building capacity and place-based support, with thanks to grant funding from Cornwall Council and working in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Support (October 2023).

Supporting community sponsorship groups Contributing funding to events (NRSG, May 2023) and supporting TCRS in collaboration with CHARIS to resettle a family in Truro.

Right to Remain Toolkit Festival In September 2023, CRRN collaborated with a national legal education charity to bring the Right to Remain Toolkit Festival to Cornwall. The event, attended by 25
representatives from local organisations, focused on rights-based education for refugees and asylum seekers. A summary of the event is available on the Right to Remain website.

Consultation Cap 2023 Coordinating a local response to the Home Office consultation seeking feedback on refugee resettlement needs and community sponsorship capacity across Cornwall. We advocated for a percentage proportion of the local population (0.02%) commitment to resettlement per year.

Voluntary Sector Support for International Health and Care Workers In response to challenges faced by international health and care workers on visas, CRRN convened a series of meetings in collaboration with Cornwall Council’s Adult Social Care Workforce Development team. These meetings ran from November 2023 to March 2024, focusing on the exploitation and vulnerabilities of individuals with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF).
In addition, we launched a small grants fund in December 2023 with thanks to the Cornwall Community Foundation’s Welcome Fund. This initiative supported 7 individuals with No Recourse to Public Funds in securing permanent accommodation and avoiding financial destitution by the end of 2023.

We ran regular online information sessions focused on building capacity and raising awareness about advocacy and supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Cornwall.

Development of our website and social media presence, with thanks to our dedicated volunteer.
