The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial slalemenls of the Charity for the from 1
January 2021 to 31 December2021.
The financial slalements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 2 to the
financial staternenls and comply with the Charity's conslilution, the Charities Act 2011 and the Accounting and
Reporting by Charities.. Slalemenl of Recommended Practice ISORP} applicable to charities preparin9 their
accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
IFRS102} effective from 1 January 2019.
Objectives and actlvltles
a. Policies and objectlves
The objective5 of White House Farrn Arboretum Foundation 8re'.
al to promote the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment for the
public benefit in particular by cullivaling and maintaining a collection of plant species of the temperate world.,
bl to advance the education of the public benefit in horticulture and the cultivation. preservation, propagation and
conservation of the physi¢al and natural environment.
In setting objects'ves and planning for aclivilies, the Tnjslees have given due consideration lo general guidance
published by the Charity Commission relating lo public benefit, including the guidance 'Public benefit.. running a
chanty {PB21'.
b. Strategies for achieving objectives
The objectives of White House Farm Arboretum Foundation will be furthered or achieved through the provision
and maintenance of an arboretum and botanic garden known as While House Farm Arboretum. as a public
facility to be enjoyed by people of all ages.
c. Activities undertaken to achieve objectives
During the year, funds were invested into an investment portfolio, managed by Evelyn Partners, with the aim of
generating further resources to achieve the Charity's objectives in the years ahead. The ongoing activities of the
Charity continued regularly despite the pandemic. These activities are described lully in the "Achievements and
performance" section under"Review of aclivilies"
d. Main activities undertaken to further the Charlty's purposes for the public beneflt
The Charity will provide advocacy. advice and information to the public, as well as provision and mainlenan¢e of
an arborteum and botanic garden open lo the general public.
A website account was opened during the year in order to make the Charity more aC￿ssIble lo the public and
since March 2021 the Charity has provided guided tours of the gardens and arbO￿turn lo the genefftl public as
well as establishing a volunteer group.

Achievements and perfomiance

During the year the Charty has continued lo raise funds in order to meet the objectives sel out in its governing
document.
The ongoing aclivrtie5 of the Charity continued regularfy deswle the pandemic and included."
The updating of the White House Farm Arboretum Foundation database, incorporating new zones, new genera
represented largely by cultivars, and including photographic records.
Idenlificalion, discussion and planning conservation of ra￿ While House Farm Arboretum Foundation plants.
Guided tours of the garden5 and arboretum from March lo August 2021.
Also during the year, a website account was opened for the Charity and a volunteer group Wd5 foLEnded wth
weekly meetings from March to October to carry out Itqht outdoor gardening rasks such as weeding and pruning
followed by tea and 8 walk-round.
The Trustees a150 gave their agreement for the Charity to be included in the book, "Secret Gardens of the South
Easr,.
M C Foster has been asked lo write a bcK)k for the general public on hydrangeas to be published by Cr¢)wood
Pre$$ and any Pr￿eedS he receives for this will be donated to the Charity.
Flnanclal revlew
a. Golng Concern
Aftei making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate
resources lo continue in operational existence for the fo￿Seeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt
the going concern basis in preparing the financial slatemenls. Further details regarding the adOpt￿n of Ihe going
concem basis can be found in the accounting policies.
b. Rosarves policy
The Trustees aim trj hold reserves sufficient to cover the ¢osts of running and mairtsining an arboretum and
botanic garden, as well as providing advocacy and advice for the next 12 months. The balance of reserves as al
31 December 2021 amounted to £323,79512020: £268,560).

a. Constitution
While HoLtse Fam Arboretum Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisalion - Foundation, registered
with the Charity Ccrnmission, and is constiluled under a eonstilulion for a CIO - Foundation dated 1 July 2019.
The Charity number is 1184185.
b. M&thod$ of appointment OT election of Trustees
The management of the Charity is the responsibility of the TTuslees who are elected and Co￿pIed under the
tem)s of the conslilulion as registered with the Charity Commission.
c. Organisational Structure and declsionamaking policies
The Trustees aim lo meet on a regular basis lo discuss and resolve any issues arising. The Trustees are the
main decision making body for the Charity. The Trustees did not hold the planned in-person annual Trustees
Meeting agieed in 2020 due lo the resurgence of the pandemic. Board decisions were instead made wa
subcommittees and gTOUP email correspondence.

As the Trustees of the Chariiy you a￿ responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
Tequirements of the Charities Act 2011 I'lhe 2011 ACVI.
I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's ac¢ounls carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and
in Carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity C¢)mmis5ion under
section 14515llbl of the 2011 Act.

I have ￿Mpleted my examination. I confimi that no matters have come to my attentson in COnnect￿n wrth the
examination giving me cause lo believe that in any material respect..
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act.. or
the accounts do not accord with those records,. or

reasonable exP￿tatIOn that the Charity wll be able lo continue lo operate for the foreseeable future.
The Trustees Consider that it Is appropriate to prepafe the financial statements on a going con￿￿
basis.
2.3 Income

2A Expenditure
Expenditure 15 recogni5ed once there is a legal or constructive obligation lo transfer economic benefit
to a third party, il Is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlernent and
the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is classified by activity. The cost5
of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including support costs
involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable lo a single aclivty are allocated directly
lo that activity. Shared costs which contribute lo more than one activity and support costs which are
not attributable to a single activity are apport¢oned betweèn those activities on a basis consislenl with
the use of resources. Central staff costs are allDcaled on the basis of lime spent, and depreciation
charges all(xated on the portion of the asset's use.
Expenditure on raising funds includes all expenditure incurred by the Charity lo iaise funds for its
chariiable purposes and in¢ludes costs of all fundraising activities events and non<harilable trading.
Expendlcure on charitable aclimlies is incurred on directly undertaking the a¢tivilies which further the
Charitys ohjeetives, as well as any associated support costs.
All expenditure is inclusive of irrecoverable VAT.
2.5 Investments
Fixed asset investments are a form of financial instrument and are initially recognised at their
transaction eosl and subsequently measured at fair value at the Balance sheet date, unless the value
cannot be measured reliabty in which case it is measured al cost less impairment. Investment gains
and losses, whether realised or unrealised, are combined and presented as 'Gainsl{L05sesl on
investments, in the Slalemenl of financial aclivitps.
2.6 Debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised al the settlement amount after any trade discount offered.
Prepayments are valued al the amount prepaid nel of any trade discounts dtje.
2.7 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash al bank and in hand includes cash and short-lerm highly liquid investments with a short malurty
of thr* months or less from the dale of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.
2.8 Liabilities and provisions
Liabilities are recognised when theft is an obligation al the Balance sheet dale as a result of a past
evenl, il is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount
of the settlement can be eslimaled reliably.
