**RETFORD LIONS CLUB (CIO) REPORT TO CHARITY COMMISSION**

Membership has remained steady and the club now has 27 members.

Fundraising events returned to somewhere near normal with the cancellation of covid restrictions and The local community has continued to provide excellent support to that aspect of the club’s work.

Amongst the fundraising activities there were several highly successful events – Charity Golf Day, annual duck races, Christmas activities and the annual cycle ride – all of which raised significant funds.

The disaster in Ukraine led to a special fundraising collection which was generously supported by local businesses housing collection buckets.

The club supported health services in the locality with a significant donation to the local hospice and several other health charities in addition to purchasing specialised equipment for individuals.

The club has always been involved in the promotion of youth activities and has continued nthis with the allocation of grants to several youth projects throughout the year.

As ever we were able to provide support to the disabled in our community. This year several grants were awarded which enabled individuals to acquire specialist equipment that they otherwisev would have been unable to access. As a result their quality of life has been enhanced.

There was considerable support given to disadvantaged people in the community – providing basic living needs. Regular donations were made to the local foodbanks and at Christmas gifts were purchased for approximately 100 children who might otherwise have received nothing.

The club continues to carry out environmental projects such as the planting of approximately 5000 daffodil bulbs at several sites in the locality. There is also a very successful project that recycles spectacles for developing countries. The club also developed a tree planting project and invited a number of schools to join in. This resulted in the planting of approximately 150 trees.

In some ways, the most significant support was that which we were able to give to the Ukrainian community. Members helped to pack items to be transported to Ukraine, made a significant donation to Lions Clubs International aid and was also able to purchase specialist sewing equipment for a group of displaced Ukrainian women to set up a business and support themselves.
