**RETFORD LIONS CLUB (CIO) REPORT TO CHARITY COMMISSION**

Membership has remained steady and there has been great support from the local community.

Inevitably the effect of Covid restrictions had a significant impact but the club continued to meet regularly on Zoom throughout the year.

Fundraising activities were naturally the most severely affected by the restrictions but Christmas activities and a very successful pop-up charity shop in June did help to replenish funds. The club also appreciated the generosity of a number of local businesses which made significant donations.

The club supported health services in the locality with a significant donation towards furnishing a relatives’ room at the local hospice, and several grants to individuals.

Support continues to be given to youth organisations with a grant to a local junior football club to improve facilities and another to improve playground facilities in a local village.

As ever we were able to provide support to the disabled in our community with the most significant grant being for a specialist trike for use in a home for disabled young people.

There was considerable support given to disadvantaged people in the community – providing basic living needs. Regular donations were made to the local foodbanks and at Christmas gifts were purchased for approximately 100 children who might otherwise have received nothing. The club also supported several initiatives to assist the vulnerable during the Covid lockdown.

The club continues to carry out environmental projects such as the planting of approximately 5000 daffodil bulbs at several sites in the locality. There is also a very successful project that recycles spectacles for developing countries.
