|Summary ofthe main
achievements
ofthe charity
during the year|||From June until October 2020 our main focus was on completing
the
Shed building.
We were able to buy the plumbing
materials for our
kitchen and toilet courtesy ofa generous
grant from Wessex Water.
All the work was undertaken
by volunteers,
including
the partitioning||
||||ofthe shed to incorprxate the kitchen and toilet into the main building.||
||||The electrics were also installed,
courtesy
in part toa generous
grant||
||||from Wiltshire Council Area Board. The guttering was completed||
||||before the ton ential rains seen in early autumn 2020, CCTV and a||
||||bike rack were installed and our oflicial sign was up in time for our
first (sadly virtual) tour in early November 2020. Our "sofl"opening
in
January 2021 allowed people tojoin the Shed, although
mindful ofthe||
||||many restrictions
in place we did not charge for membership
until the||
||||following
financial year.||
||||Our first commission
after completion
ofthe Shed was the restoration||
||||ofan old red telephone
box forThe Guild (Wilton Shopping
Village|as|
||||was), which after many hours work by volunteers
was completed
in||
||||April 2021. The trustees dedded to hold an oflicial opening
in June||
||||2021 once much ofthe Covid restrictions were lifted, with plans to
open 3mornings
aweek induding
Mondays,
Thursdays
and||
||||Saturdays.||
||||The resilience ofour volunteers,
in the face ofthe huge challenges||
||||posed by Covid, has been truly amazing.
Without the enormous||
||||support ofour community
the Men's Shed would have remained
an||
||||aspiration
rather than the very real asset it is now to Wilton and||
||||beyond.||
