Grants of £250,500 were made during the year. The trustees have continued to work with The Marlborough College Foundation (charity number 1061798) to support means tested bursaries for pupils unable to afford fees, and programmes for social mobility through raising awareness of and preparation for university education. The trustees continued to support the furtherance of science and innovation teaching. Grants paid out exceeded donations received by £104,000. Cash for investment was retained at the end of 2021 in the hope of purchasing stocks at a lower value in 2022. Whilst shares were purchased at lower prices, in some cases the shares fell further in value. The investment portfolio lost 19% in the year compared with 33% for the Nasdaq index. The portfolio remains invested in companies with long term growth potential.
