OBJECTIVES AND AcfivITIES
Like most small charities. TIC was bom from struggling parents ¢omtng logeth¢r with the ideology of creating a better
world for their children.
In 2013 after receiving a diagnosis of Tourette's Syndr(Trme for her then 6-year-old child. needing more llifomiation.
Kim attended a local support group. Finding it helpful hearing other people's stories she became a regular and within the
year found herself faciliiating the groups. The gTOUP was held every 3 months and was fairly small as it wasn't
advenised anywhere ai that time. members just filtered through from the national charity.
When explaining her child had Tour¢tte's to gth¢r5, She was often met with comments such as 'he doesn't swear" and
very Iiiile understanding on the condition, on¢ day whilst out with her son. Kim experienced an incident that has stayed
with her ever since, her son tic¢ing quite badly at traffic lights, attracted the attention of a man who stared so rudely at
him ir left Kim shaken up. Deciding to fight this head on, Kitni leached out io the local paper to help spread awareness
of the condition.
After th¢ paper went to print tnore families began to attend the meetings, Bev joined the group 2014 and they
bwam¢ mueh needed 5UPPOrt for each other. Between 2016 and 2018 more and more families came through the doors
at the meeting feeling frustrated and lost. They were hitting brick walls when it catne to support and understanding both
by the medical profe5siona15 and at school. Kim and Bev attended training frotn tnultiple sources and putting everything
together that they had leamt, developed a school talk that they felt much happier abtsut. Taking it a step ￿rther they
gathered a group of volunteers together to become trustees and Set up Tourettes.syndrome. Inclusion in the Community
(TIC) as a charity.
Since October 2018 TIC'S main obje¢tiv¢ has been "To promote social inclusion of people affected by Tourette's
5yndrotne and tic disorders in hull and Yorkshire who are socially excluded from society. OT parts of society, as a r¢5uIt
