ANNUAL REPORT FOR MAC CLUB – 2021 -2022
Multiple Abilities club has moved forward since the enforced shut-down by Covid. We have evolved with new members at all levels, from Trustees, Volunteers to Service users. The Trustees are from a range ethnic, gender, ability/disability, age, education and skilled backgrounds: This enhances accessibilities and removes barriers from different parts of the community.
Our aims and objectives are to provide a safe and social environment , where our clients can meet regularly to build ongoing friendships and develop communication and social skills. This helps to combat isolation and loneliness.
Currently we open every Tuesday evening,6:30pm to 9:00pm, providing bingo, disco, raffle and have an open kitchen for snacks and food. Our first venue was Packmoor Community Centre. However, this was difficult to access for some of our clients, due to its locality, we then moved to Joiner’s Square Community Centre. We also offer trips to bowling, theatre, day trips ( clients are involved in decisions about destinations, e.g. Southport, Llandudno and Blackpool). Clients feel more invested when they choose to be involved in the running of the activities; further developing their personal skills. With our instruction and support they can help with selling raffle and bingo tickets, cleaning and collecting rubbish, preparing food and selling it, a couple of our members do the DJ’ing for the disco.
Due to lack of confidence, we started off with numbers being in the 40’s and have built up over the year to having numbers in the 80’s, some weeks.
We have been working closely with the council over the past year in regard of taking over Fenton Community Hall, making it our home base. When this goes ahead, we will be able to expand our opportunities: becoming a hub for the wider community, welcoming all ages and backgrounds. We have built good working relationships with local support services, using their knowledge and advise to build a stronger framework during this time e.g. police and safeguarding.
We look forward in the next year to expand the number of clients and working towards moving to Fenton Community Hall.
