Lions Club of Plymouth CIO

Treasurers Report for the year ended 30th June 2023

The Club’s financial position remains roller coaster with an overall surplus of £129.47 arising Administratively in the Accounts for the year ended 30th June 2023 and a deficit of £933.05 from the Club’s Charitable activities.

The figures continue to be affected by Covid 19 disruption and the Club’s reduced fundraising and socialising during the year but despite this my Report does support a sterling effort by everyone connected with the Club to achieve the figures and position reflected in the Accounts which is summarised as follows :-

Administration

Club Members who paid £1794 Subscriptions contributed the majority of the Club’s income received during the year ended 30th June 2023 which in turn funded the £1577.45 Lions Club International, Multiple District and District Dues. Other income received was £341.25 Gift Aid claimable from certain Member’s subscriptions, a £40 Donation from an ex Member and £225.93 from the Bottle Raffle/Tamer collections made at each monthly Business Meeting.

Administration Expenditure consisted of several miscellaneous items identified in the Notes to the Accounts , insurance paid of £44.25 and nominal amounts to reimburse our Treasurer and Secretary for administrative expenses they incurred on behalf of the Club.

Depreciation of the Container sited at Elfordleigh used to store the Club’s equipment has been included in the Accounts at 10% for the year to write off the cost of the Asset over its expected useful life.

Social

The Social Committee arranged a Christmas Dinner, Charter Luncheon and Handover Luncheon during the year ended 30th June 2023 as well as a Coronation Tea, French Lions Visit and a Murder Mystery Event. The monies paid by everyone attending these functions and the costs attributable have been included in the Accounts.

During the year a 60th Charter 2024 Dinner Reserve was set up, funded by selected events which were attended and financed only by Club members and their guests, to supplement costings arising during next year’s 60th Charter celebrations. The Reserve currently has a credit balance as at the 30th June 2023 of £832.75

Charity CIO

Despite the fact fund raising was again somewhat reduced from pre Covid years we did raise £2360.62 plus £567.66 Gift Aid from the Christmas Bucket Shakes, £1436.53 from three weekly stints at Harewood House and we enjoyed various profitable amounts arising from a Quiz Night, the Yealmpton Show, Tamerton Fare, Plymouth Carnival and Plympton Lamb Feast. Donations received from third parties totalled £1732.76 , Gift Aid of £40.80 was received for small donations and £169.90 from our Londis Store Glenholt collection boxes.

The Club financially assisted and participated in the Soup Run during the year ended 30th June 2023 incurring £492.20 Soup Run expenses backed by Donations totalling £475.00 , the Ladies donated £314.88 to a deserving cause and £53.95 miscellaneous items were expended on charitable causes.

The jewel in the crown as far as our Charitable activities were concerned during the year ended 30th June 2023 were the financial donations totalling £8500.25 made to the 19 Charitable/ Organisations many of which were located within our local community.

Charity Trust Fund -Reuben Heathershaw Memorial Fund (RHMF)

I am pleased to report that the total amount in this Fund topped up by the Club ’s own Fund Monies to £3000.00 was spent during the year equipping, refurbishing and renovating a room in the Ocean Suite in the Gynaecology Unit at Derriford Hospital .The completion of this work has, therefore, brought financial closure to the Memorial Fund and has resulted in a nil balance arising as at the 30th June 2023 in our Lloyds Bank Charity Account number 00025841.

Balance Sheet as at 30th June 2023

This continues to show healthy credit balances accounts as at 30th June 2023 in each of our other two Lloyds Bank accounts.
