Achievements and Performance
1) Change to financial year
This report is the first to cover a full 12 month reporting year following an adjustment to our charity financial year. That adjustment was made to better align the charity’s financial year with the sporting seasons – in particular the conclusion of the football season around April, and the commencement of the cricket season.
2) Sporting activity and participation
As in previous years, the reporting year saw the charity support 3 sports from our site in Inkberrow - football, cricket and running. Highlights from each of the sports include:
Football
-
We are very proud of the excellent growth we have seen in football participation. 38 ‘teams’ use our facilities covering over 450 junior players, 120 senior players and 90 coaches;
o33 teams are affiliated to a league; -
4 men’s and 1 women’s senior football teams (no change)
-
20 boys junior football teams (an increase of 3)
-
8 girls junior football teams (an increase of 1)
-
We continue to see the positive benefits of the time and investment made in our setting up our development squads over recent years, with 12 affiliated teams at U10 and below level, and very active U5 and U6 centres, plus the resumption of our Wildcats programme at the end of the reporting year, all of which continue to attract new boys and girls wanting to take part in football.
-
Before the start of the 2024-25 season, one of our senior men’s teams was unexpectedly promoted to the uhlsport Hellenic League at Step 5 of the football pyramid. As a second consecutive promotion, this required enhancements to our facilities including additional seating, further hard-standing around the main pitch and a new tannoy system. The season ended with promotion through the play-offs for the team who will play at Step 4 next year. This will be the highest level that the club has ever played, even more impressive given the significant number of players who have graduated from the club’s junior sections of the club.
-
Our open age women’s team competed in their 5th season in Tier 7s Mid West Counties League. They ended the 2024-25 season a respectable 6th position out of 16 teams could have achieved a higher position were it not for a number of injuries picked up in the later part of the season. The women's team have aspirations to push on and to build a squad that can challenge for promotion and this is backed by a player pathway at the club. For the first time this season the players were not charged to play, helped by local sponsorship
-
Our annual summer football tournament in summer 2024 was our biggest ever with a record attendance of 158 visiting teams over the 2-day festival making it one of the largest in Worcestershire. The tournament included walking football fixtures for the first time, expanding our participants and audience even further.
-
We hosted football day camps during the year in conjunction with Delta Sports (a local school and sport focused organisation), attended by a number of local children.
-
Following the construction of the site’s 3G facility, a new Junior Performance Programme (JPP) was launched, bringing a new coaching opportunity to young players in the community.
-
The culmination of these developments, and the club’s interest in maximizing the benefit and use of the 3G facility, led the club to appoint its first Head Coach in January 2025. This has already yielded benefits for both our junior and senior football offers, and will see increasing focus on optimising the pathway between the two.
-
We continue to invest energy into supporting both the ethos and standards of coaching, for the benefit of our wide range of players. In the reporting year this included CPD sessions with Worcester FA, and a coaches training session with representatives from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
-
Sporting Club Inkberrow is proud to be a part of the ‘Kick it Out’ campaign and stand against discrimination, in all its form, racism, sexism, homophobia & transphobia.
Cricket
-
Another fine summer saw a host of competitive fixtures across the senior side, U12s, U11s and U10s.
-
2024 was another successful season for the Inkberrow senior side, finishing 3[rd] and gaining promotion to Division 7 of the Worcester County League. We were pleased to have another 3 graduates of the junior section make their senior debut.
-
In our juniors we saw real progression in the U10 and U11s which for many of them was their first taste of hardball cricket. Our U12 cricket team enjoyed another positive season continuing to show progression as a team. They finished 2nd in their Pairs league and 3rd in the T20 league playing against established cricket clubs. The team’s development was validated by 3 players going on to be successful in their county age group trials for the 2025 season.
-
The junior cricket section is flourishing with over 70 children participating and enjoying both practicing and playing softball and hardball
-
The ECB All Stars and Dynamos Programme ran for the 8th consecutive season and continued to be popular with parents from the village and surrounding areas.
Running
-
May 2024 saw the annual running event take place, with 65 teams and 260 runners joining the 5km run, with a junior fun run also taking place.
-
In the lead up to the event a series of pre-event running groups were initiated to support participants in their preparations for the race.
3) Investment in Facilities
Year-end 2025 saw our biggest single year of capital investment - £839k in the year bringing the total investment on-site to over £2.1m in the last 15 years. This comprised of:
-
£717k on a new small sided 3G pitch
-
£47k for Step 5 stadium compliance
-
£45k on new car parking provision
-
£21k on a second cricket square
-
£9k on general site/pavilion improvements
The 3G investment was generously supported by new grant funding - £598k from the Football Foundation and £100k from a Wychavon Council Community Legacy Grant. Additionally a Wychavon Rural Fund grant of £12k was secured to help build the new cricket square.
During the year the Charity submitted a planning application for new cricket netting facilities, which we hope to build in year-end 2026.
4) Additional activities
We continue to work closely with Inkberrow Primary School to provide them access to quality facilities. This included hosting a number of football fixtures in spring and summer, and hosting the school’s annual 2024 sports day.
A new SCI website (www.sportingclubinkberrow.org) was launched, bringing together our multi-sport offering, giving access to key charity information, policies and other information.
Outside sport, the charity hosted two events for the wider community – a fireworks event in November 2024 and the Glastonberrow music festival in summer 2024. While the music festival is on hiatus for 2025, the club remains committed to supporting engagement with the community.
We have continued to offer the well-attended local ‘warm space’ initiative, welcoming members of our community to meet at our pavilion to share free hot drinks on two mornings a week. The popularity and positive spirit of this initiative has seen it continue to be made available throughout the year.
Like most voluntary organisations we rely on many people to make everything happen day to day. The Trustees would like to thank everyone who has helped us including the many volunteers acting as coaches, managers, car park marshals, bar staff, cafe cooks/servers, and all those individuals who helped at the football tournament, running event and firework and bonfire event.
We are grateful for the support of the Parish Council – a member of which sits on our Board – and the ICC CIO who manage the village hall, its car park and playing field and with whom we are grateful for our collaboration in the interests of our community. We also thank other local groups including the Inkberrow Men’s Shed, Inkberrow Bowls Club, Inkberrow Tennis Club and the Inkberrow environmental group. We continue to be especially grateful to our neighbours along Sands Road.
5) Financial Review
The Charity overall was profitable, with net profit £81.9k for reporting year.
Trading Company
This company runs the café/bar and major fundraising events with the sole purpose of making profits to invest in our charitable purpose. In line with growth seen in other parts of the club, sales were £188k (+c.15% on the equivalent period prior year) and profits of £36.7k were generated for the Charity.
Charity
The charity itself generated income of £279k in the reporting period, the main sources being:
-
Charitable activities £212.3k
-
• Donations £40.4k • Fundraising/Sponsorship £26.0k
Overall charity costs were £233.8k which left a healthy profit of £45.0k.
Reserves
Total reserves stood at £338.2k, including cash and bank balances of £43.1k. Debt (repayable over the next 4 years) stood at £140.5k. The Trustees are confident that the charity remains a going concern.
6) Structure, Governance and Management

2.2 INCOME
| Recognition of income |
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when: • the charity becomes entitled to the resources; • it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; • the monetaryvalue can be measured with sufficient reliability. |
|---|---|
| Offsetting | There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102. |
| Grants and donations | Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP). |
| In the case of performance related grants, income must only be recognised to the extent that the charity has provided the specified goods or services as entitlement to the grant only occurs when the performance related conditions are met (5.16 FRS 102 SORP). |
|
| Legacies | Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met. |
| Government grants | The charity has received government grants in the reporting period |
| Tax reclaims on donations and gifts |
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise. |
| Contractual income and performance relatedgrants |
This is only included in the SoFA once the charity has provided the related goods or services or met the performance related conditions. |

| The cost of any stock of goods donated for distribution to beneficiaries is deemed to be the fair value of those gifts at the time of their receipt and they are recognised on receipt. In the reporting period in which the stocks are distributed, they are recognised as an expense at the carrying amount of the stocks at distribution. |
|
| Donated goods for resale are measured at fair value on initial recognition, which is the expected proceeds from sale less the expected costs of sale, and recognised in 'Income from other trading activities' with the corresponding stock recognised in the balance sheet. On its sale the value of stock is charged against 'Income from other trading activities' and the proceeds from sale are also recognised as 'Income from other tradingactivities'. |

|
| Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SoFA as income from donations when receivable. |
|
| Donated services and facilities |
Donated services and facilities are included in the SOFA when received at the value of the gift to the charity provided the value of the gift can be measured reliably. |
| Donated services and facilities that are consumed immediately are recognised as income with an equivalent amount recognised as an expense under the appropriate heading in the SOFA. |
|
| Support costs | The charity has incurred expenditure on support costs. |
| Volunteer help | The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the trustees’ annual report. |
