volunteers
Para 1.38
Our volunteers are essential – they
do the practical hands-on work and
provide a lot of the inspiration for
the projects and activities that
happen.

We only have a small amount of
paid assistance - and these
individuals contribute many more
hours, as unpaid volunteers.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20
Increased volunteer numbers,
recruited new volunteer leaders and
clarified induction processes: the
charity offers more opportunities for
volunteering and we feel more
certain that the work is carried out in
an effective and safe way.

New website, more regular social
media posts and more prominent
signage in the park: the passion and
focus of the charity is now much
clearer to the public.

Increased level of Friends’
membership – more people are
aware of our work, and of the
activities available.

Planned a budget, although the
implementation of this was much
disrupted by Covid restrictions, and
spendingwas down over theyear:

the charity is able to show that their income is well-spent.

Achievements against
objectives set

Para 1.41

In a tough year, due to Covid
restrictions, we couldn’t do as many
gardening and other sessions as
planned. However, the number of
volunteers continued to grow
throughout the year, as did the
number of Friends who support us
with their memberships.

A key objective was to recruit more
trustees, and we have successfully
found a group of high-class
appointees.

Para 1.46 NA
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46
Day-to-day management of the
charity is the responsibility of one
person.

When the park floods, our activities
cease, which impacts our income,
and the park’s public profile.

The city council is under-funded and
the paid staff in charge of the park
are severely over-stretched,
meaning that there is even more call
on our resources.
