Sheringham Coastwatch Annual Report January to December 2020

Thanks once again to all watchkeepers, spouses & partners for your efforts during this difficult time. We were closed by the Coastguard at the start of the March 2020 lockdown but re-opened in May & have been allowed to continue since due to the granting of key worker status. The station did have to close for a short period in December for electrical installation work to be carried out.

During the 12-month period we were involved in 13 incidents. Full reports on each incident were recorded in the log & incident report file at the station.

As of 31[st] December, we had 25 active watchkeepers & 5 shielding, which is a reduction of 4 members. It is hoped to be able to bring all the team back together shortly when the roadmap allows us to restart training both refresher & new recruits.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions our AGM in March 2020 could not take place, but the report & annual 2019 accounts were circulated to all members for approval on the date when the meeting had been scheduled. A unanimous vote by email of 32 for, 0 against for Mr Michael. Bersin to become a Trustee as Administrator/Secretary was received from the membership. The AGM for 2020 which would normally be held in March 2021 will be held in June/July 2021 subject to the lockdown roadmap. All the existing trustees are happy to stay in place until then.

The six trustees met on three occasions when allowed under COVID rules, socially distanced outside, so business could carry on as usual.

The good relationship with Sheringham Golf Club, the owners of our building, continues & a new ten-year lease is in the final stages of completion.

In 2020 Insulation was installed in both the north walls & ceiling and an internal repaint & new notice boards were completed. In 2021 we will continue to plan & implement improvements to the building to make it a better environment to operate & work in.

After 60 years of operation the opportunity arose in 2020 for an electricity supply to be installed from Sheringham Golf Club across the fairways to the station. This was completed in December while the Golf Course was closed. Our thanks go to the directors & management of Sheringham Golf Club for their co-operation & assistance in allowing this to happen. The Trustees loaned the charity the money to complete the electrical work during lockdown. This loan was paid off in January 2021 from a legacy after the 2020 accounts had closed.

Our finances continue on a good footing & our thanks to Tony Larner Ltd our auditors.

Thank you to all who have supported us, we do not receive government or official grants, so every donation helps.
