3. Matters arising from the Minutes
4a) BR noted that after initial contact with the Duchy of Lancaster there had been no further replies to our requests to seek accommodation in The Castle. (DM agreed to renew the contact with Vicky Mathews.)
6a) BR was pleased that the LHMMC had appointed new Trustees during the course of the year.
6b) BR confirmed that policies for Safeguarding and Internal Financial Controls were now in place.
6d) PVD reported that he and BR had not been able to meet with the UHMBFT CEO or Chair despite making contact through their PA.
4. The revised Constitution was approved by the Trustees.
5. Chair’s Annual Report.
-
a) BR thanked all the Trustees for their hard work and in particular M.Rucklidge who had stepped down as Treasurer.
-
b) BR expressed his sadness for the loss of John Carne during the year. JC had been one of the founding members and collector of the LHMMC.
-
c) BR thanked DM for setting up the LHMMC website, establishing email addresses for the administrator, chair and secretary and for becoming treasurer.
-
d) BR confirmed that the LHMMC would be taking part in the Heritage Open Event in Lancaster in September. The Platform is not available so the Storey options have been explored. Here there are two possible spaces: The Music Room and the Gallery. The Music Room is the most costeffective and is available on the 17th and 18th September in the afternoons or all day on the 20th September. Booking can be extended into early evening on the Wednesday. The double weekday option was most favoured and will be booked soon if still available. It is hoped that the LHMMC could show some items from the collection and deliver talks by BR, PVD and others. It is hoped that parties from the local schools and medical schools would attend.
-
e) BR delivered a presentation based his recent visit to the Devon and Exeter Medical Heritage Trust.
6. Treasurer’s Annual Report
Savings Account. Balance at 31st March 2025. £7658 Current Account. Balance at 31st March 2025. £1225
7. Any Other Business
-
a) SB indicated that he would be happy to undertake the role of secretary provided that there were no other Trustees interested. It was agreed that if someone else wished to be considered that they would let BR or PVD know.
-
b) PVD informed the Trustees and Members that he had had discussions with the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries regarding the porcelain medicine spoons and feeding cup that had been entrusted to his care by Mr. A. Willis of Kirkby Stephen. The Apothecaries are happy to curate the objects, catalogue them on their collections website and exhibit them in their Hall. Should the LHMMC wish to show the items locally, this could be arranged with the Apothecaries. The Trustees approved this arrangement as it meant that the original intention of the donor, that the objects should be exhibited for educational purposes, would be fulfilled.
-
c) ID informed the AGM that the Saving Faces project was still being considered as part of the Health Festival but as there were some final details to be agreed, it is was not planned for this year.
-
d) DM reported that the website was active and that any contributions were welcome, e.g. for the “object of the month”.
-
e) NP is delivering a medical history of Lancaster walk on the 1st July. This will be advertised on the LHMMC website
-
f) PVD confirmed that the LDCVS were sending a weekly newsletter to the LHMMC. BR was happy to continue to receive this.
