Minutes of the Annual General Meeting Held by Microsoft Teams on Thursday 2[nd] February 2023

BR welcomed Trustees and members to the AGM.
1. Apologies

2. Minutes of the last meeting
These were accepted as a true record of the last AGM.
3. Matters arising from Minutes

a) BR and MR met Dr Shreeve and took him round the Collection in July 2022.

b) Dr Shreeve donated a Weiss Trephine and Aspiration Set to the Collection . BR thanked him for the donation.

c) The LHMMC did not take part in the Heritage Open Weekend this year.
4. Chair’s annual report
a) Meetings attended with:
-
Director of Communications at the Duchy of Lancaster (Debbie Garrity), to discuss a possible permanent LHMMC exhibition at The Castle.

Chair (Mike Thomas) and CEO (Aaron Cumming) of UHMBFT. They offered support for the LHMMC and discussed the possibility of a room(s) in a new hospital. They also suggested that we contact the charities team.

Ian Dewar to consider the role of LHMMC including within the Bay Health Festival.

b) Four Special Study Modules have been completed by Lancaster University medical students. These have been studies of four items from the Collection.

c) BR has written an article on The History of Masks for the BSHM Website.

d) BR is guest editor for the MBMJ issue to commemorate the
Bicentenary of The Lancaster and Morecambe Book Club.
- e) Professor Gareth Williams will give a lecture on November 11[th] 2023 to commemorate
the Bicentenary. It will be about Edward Jenner and will be at The Storey Institute.

f) A plaque to commemorate the first meeting of the Book Club will be unveiled at TKMax in

Lancaster (the site of the original building).
5. Treasurer’s annual report

6. Any Other Business

a) NI and PVD have had meetings with Christine Chadwick (Heritage Consultant) to organise a Workshop for a small number of local individuals to ask how we can support their activities. Key themes include how the LHMMC can contribute to the heritage of Lancaster and how to demonstrate the local, national and international role that the city has played in health and medicine in the past and present. The importance of stories has been emphasised.

b) NI, PVD and Ian Dewar met the Chair (Caroline Jackson) and CEO (Mark Davies) of Lancaster City Council in a supportive meeting for the LHMMC. They expressed interest in the Collection and will be interested to hear about the outcomes from the planned Workshop.
