## Objectives and activities

World Bhangra Council – Objects. 

- 1) The advancement of education of Bhangra. 

i) To promote, sustain and increase individual and collective knowledge and understanding of Bhangra. 

ii) To advance the education of the public in the subject of Bhangra, through continued research and practice. 

## 2) The advancement of the art form of Bhangra. 

i) To promote the art form of Bhangra and its associated heritage and culture from which it belongs to, through performance, Art and Creativity. 

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects: 

The main activities of the World Bhangra Council are to advance the education of the public in Bhangra by promoting, sustaining and increasing knowledge and understanding of Bhangra through continued research and practice. Our success is based on active dialogue between artists and academics. 

Achievements and performance: 

- 1) In 2023, Hardeep Singh Sahota was selected as the commissioned international artist for the Art in the Landscape project in Ireland. Known for his expertise in Bhangra, he infused the project with his signature fusion of traditional Bhangra dance and innovative light-painting techniques. Working alongside photographer Tim Smith, his work not only captured the ephemeral beauty of Bhangra movements through longexposure photography but also actively engaged local communities. 

- 2) His contributions included leading interactive workshops—such as a Bhangra dance session where he taught easy-to-learn moves—and helping stage a unique fusion event (a Bhangra Céilí) that blended traditional Irish dance with the vibrant energy of Bhangra. These initiatives created a dynamic cultural dialogue, connecting the local heritage and work industries with global dance traditions through a visually striking narrative.

The Charity does not have a bank account and therefore our income and expenditure is £0 in all cases and other financial information is not yet applicable. We do not envisage this at 



the moment but if in the future the trustees see fit to open an account, we will also make sure that we have an independent examiner report on the accounts.
