World Bhangra Council – Objects.
- 1) The advancement of education of Bhangra.
i) To promote, sustain and increase individual and collective knowledge and understanding of Bhangra.
ii) To advance the education of the public in the subject of Bhangra, through continued research and practice.
- 2) The advancement of the art form of Bhangra.
i) To promote the art form of Bhangra and its associated heritage and culture from which it belongs to, through performance, Art and Creativity.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects:
The main activities of the World Bhangra Council are to advance the education of the public in Bhangra by promoting, sustaining and increasing knowledge and understanding of Bhangra through continued research and practice. Our success is based on active dialogue between artists and academics.
Achievements and performance:
The UK government COVID lockdown took place and therefore many of the work carried out was online.

1) 13[th] April 2020 - The World Bhangra Council (WBC) in partnership with Real Folk Cultural International Academy (RFCIA) undertook World Bhangra Day 2020. Artists live-streamed their performances and shared their passion for Bhangra in their respective countries. https://youtu.be/GK79kywyhLU

2) 7[th] October 2020 - In collaboration with Untitled With The Sitare, we explored the world of boliyaan. Working with Swaranjit Kaur we created an online ‘open mic’ type event with colleagues from Singapore. Bolis are Punjabi folksongs that are highly melodious and connected in both rhyme & rhythm. They tend to be passed down from generation to generation, and may vary from 1 line to 4-5 or even more. They can be sung with or without music. https://youtu.be/317pK6Sz_Ow

3) Further research and development of recording and cataloguing individual Bhangra Moves to create the World’s First ‘repertoire’ of Bhangra.
Financial review
The Charity does not have a bank account and therefore our income and expenditure is £0 in all cases and other financial information is not yet applicable. We do not envisage this at the moment but if in the future the trustees see fit to open an account, we will also make sure that we have an independent examiner report on the accounts.
