## - Annual Trustees Report 2022 2023
The objective of Haverhill Lions Club is to provide help and service to our local community.
One of the key ways in which we help is by contributing donations to local individuals, groups and organisations for their own community based fundraising projects. We are able to do this by our own fundraising throughout the year.
The main basis of our fundraising activities have been derived from three sources. Running BBQ’s at organised summer events and private functions, raising income by providing train rides on our own bespoke ‘Thomas’ train and carriages at organised events, and finally, for a number of years we have created and manage a very popular Santa’s Grotto at Christmas time.
Unfortunately, as a result of substantial increase in Public Liability Insurance costs we have now had to cease the train rides at organised events which has impacted on our income. Sadly, the train and its carriages have now been sold to another charitable organisation for a below value sum.
This has been a challenging year of change for us. Beside losing the train we have also lost our free storage facilities we have enjoyed for many years. This has meant funding a lock up and moving all our equipment. Additionally medical issues amongst volunteers has forced us to reduce the amount of events we are able to fundraise at.
However, we have still managed to donate funds throughout the year to local organisations in need of support. These include Relay For Life(cancer charity), Joshua Tarrant Trust, Haverhill Reach(foodbank) and EACH (East Anglia Childrens Hospice). We also provided a donation towards the LCIF Turkey/Syria Fund.
As we move forward through 2023/24 we will continue supporting the local community in a variety of ways and look for alternative methods of raising much needed funds for projects and charities in the wider community.
