Trustees Report

Year Ended 31 March 2021

The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2021.

Trustees’ Annual Report 2020 - 2021

The Fig Tree Project is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation run in accordance with our Governing Document. Our Governance Structure comprises a board of trustees who are elected by the trustees for a three year term of office, which may be extended by subsequent terms. The board of trustees provide strategic overview of the work of the CIO, establish and maintain policies and guide the work and vision of the organisation.

The function of risk management lies with the trustees and is reviewed on a regular basis.

Charitable Objects and Objectives

The Objects of the charity as set out in our governing document are:

The advancement of the Christian faith in Stonehouse and the Severn Vale west of Stroud in such ways as the trustees think fit including through pastoral care and outreach into the community as a means of carrying out the mission and outreach work of the faith, for the benefit of the public.

Achievements during the year 2020 - 2021

The restrictions associated with the Covid-19 pandemic continued to frustrate plans to actually open the project on Stonehouse High Street.

Trustees successfully negotiated agreements with grant-awarding bodies that they would continue to support us, and only pause their grants until such time as the project could be properly launched.

The project continued to develop links in the community and with other community groups to develop the offering in the light of changing circumstances and also expects to receive additional grant aid from other sources of funding once the project is operational.

The volunteer team has received regular updates on progress.

Plans for activities and policies have been reviewed in line with likely continuing covid restrictions to enable maximum activity within any constraints arising from the pandemic.

Priorities for 2021- 2022

The trustees aim to complete the lease of the High Street premises and refurbish the rooms as soon as practical.

Activities will commence as soon as practical given the restrictions caused by covid and the limitations placed upon some volunteers. This inevitably means a more phased opening of the project than originally envisaged, but the trustees consider that this should be seen as an opportunity to more organically develop the work according to the changing needs of the community.

The retail activity, upon which the future financial health of the project depends, will start as soon as the shop part of the premises is available.
