Trustees’ Annual Report

Lichfield Re:Cycle is a bicycle recycling and confidence building charity working across the Lichfield District.

The trustees who served during the year and to the date of authorisation of the financial accounts were:

John Belshaw (Chair) James Flintham (Secretary) Simon Miller (Treasurer) Alan Richardson James Miller Diane Harrison Brett Jones Ed Strain Philip Pendlebury Trevor Hill

Chair’s Report

After our busiest year in 2020, this year has returned to normal levels of activity. We have established our presence at Curborough Community Centre in the heart of the North Lichfield community using a purpose built workshop to meet weekly to fix donated bikes. Covid-19 has been challenging but we have met in a Covid secure way, mainly utilising the outdoor space.

We made successful grant applications to enable this work and would like to thank Staffordshire County Council, Support Staffordshire, Waitrose and Arnold Clark for their support.

We have held a handful of social rides but common with other event organisers we were unable to hold our annual Ride Lichfield festival of cycling. Our volunteers have continued to focus on offering free long term loan bikes to beneficiaries, as well as enabling people to ride and giving advice and guidance.

Treasurer’s Report

These accounts cover the second full financial period of the CIO. Cash balances at the end of the year were £3433.98 which are unrestricted. This is £79 higher than the beginning of the year. Sales of assets and cash donations make up the largest source of income (63%) followed by grants (37%).

Given the payment last year of a period of advance rental costs to use the new workshop at Curborough Community Centre and the charity holding several saleable assets, reserves are currently sufficient at around 12 months of operating costs.

With very many thanks

Lichfield Re:Cycle is entirely run by volunteers. In addition to the trustees named above, we would like to thank those who have gave their time this year to help with our workshop sessions or by volunteering from home:

Paul Haddock, Glenn Mellor, John Cresswell, Ibrahim Alashi, Tony Cassidy, Phil John, Daniel Floyd, John Mulqueen, Paul Tennant, Alix Evans, Ian Cheshire and David.

We are grateful for the support from various organisations and businesses including:

Fusion Credit Union, Secura Labels, Lichfield Live, Curborough Community Association, Wade Street Wheelers, Bromford Housing, The Walsall Bike Project, White Lodge Promotions, Support Staffordshire, Cycling 2000 and Cycling UK.

Finally, many thanks to the hundreds of people who have donated bicycles and parts to us this year and to the thousands of people who have liked and shared our information on social media or by word of mouth.
