| Grooveschool provides opportunity to learn music production and DJ skills in an environment that promotes social inclusion and tackles inequality. Grooveschool is a charity that run projects focussed towards nurturing young people's engagement, creativity and invention. Our overall aim is to make accessible something that may be of interest from which enjoyment and creativity can flow. As well as developing skills within and outside of the national curriculum we offer much much more and provide many live performance opportunities.The music production and DJ training could lead to professional qualifications (including Arts Awards, AQA and RSL accreditation).Grooveschool has achieved Standard 1 against Project Oracle Standards of Evidence. Participants are engaged with hands-on learning using turntables and music technology, guided by experienced tutors. Tutors and volunteers are selected on the basis of experience and expertise and are required to hold an up to date enhanced DBS The organisation aims to help people from low income families, NEET (“not in education, employment or training”), SEN/D (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), those with multiple disabilities, those in need as a result of unemployment, people in care and in hospices, also the elderly, such as those with Alzheimers or dementia. |

Grooveschool is fortunate to have a number of volunteers dedicated to helping the charity out. These include friends of the members and parents of the participants. So, for example, lifts to gigs or transport and help setting up sometimes at events is something the charity benefits from. This also stretches out to fundraising as the supporters share the events to their friends and family. It should also be stated that amongst those who are paid when funded for programmes they too volunteer a lot of their free time enabling the charity to exist, run and function, providing consistent and much needed free of cost community workshops.

Grooveschool achievements - 2023/2024
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Throughout 2023/2024 Grooveschool continued to record and edit a significant number of Steele podcast shows from our creative studio at 3Space in Brixton. Supported by the Juvenis organisation and broadcast on ReachLDN the Steele Got it show once more highlighted a whole host of important issues for the local community.
Spring 2023 welcomed another cohort of Deaf DJs as we continued our work with Deaf Rave. This particular cohort came from far afield, some from the south coast, each Monday night. Great group. One particular student was selected to play at the Deaf Rave 20 year anniversary later on in the year.
May 2023 saw Grooveschool begin to develop a new website.
June 2023 saw a milestone event for Grooveschool as the charity was handed a slot running one of the stages at the 49th edition of the Lambeth Country Show. London’s largest free festival. The Grooveschool tent attracted hundreds of dancers and onlookers throughout both days and at various times was the hottest ticket in town, for many the best feature of the weekend. Again, a very hot weekend which saw us host 18 DJs playing. These included new participants, members who had taken part in the Amplify project. Some are playing their own music to the public for the very first time. Everyone had a great weekend and for some it was the event of the year. In early 2023 Lambeth Council informed us we would have to vacate the premises at International House Brixton. So knowing we had a lot of equipment and not just the odd office desk we made haste and fortunately we’re accepted to take on a unit at LJWorks in Loughborough Junction. This move was only made possible by the support from Gemini Foundation who supported costs for the next two years. The intention for Studio 3E being to use it as a training facility for apprentices. In early August we began to move in.
In the Autumn of 2023 Grooveschool the first installment of a grant from High Trees in Tulse Hill. A learning grant to help give time to develop a Mentoring Quality Framework for the charity.
Winter 2023 saw Grooveschool hired by Building Young Brixton (BYB) to run a celebration event at Marcus Lipton Community Centre. Supplying 3 tables of DJ, music production and podcast equipment and providing the tutors to facilitate activities.
2024 Support from Balearic Burger parties, featuring Grooveschool on all flyers and at events.
The National Lottery Funding (TNL) - successful application to run weekly music industry related sessions for Neurodivergent Young Adults
Key highlights of 2023-24 include:
● Steele Got It podcasts. Weekly collaboration with Juvenis on the production of local community issue based podcasts. Available to listen on Spotify. ● Conclusion of Deaf Rave collaboration in Spring 2023. Continuation of the world's first DJ workshops for Deaf people. 3rd Cohort. Participants also enjoyed jamming with live electronic equipment.
