## **Cylch Meithrin Ysgol Glan Morfa Annual Report 2022/23**

Good afternoon everyone. I am proud to be able to report back on Cylch Meithrin Ysgol Glan Morfa’s fourth full year of operation, a year of consolidation and growth for our Charity.

In January 2023 we reached full capacity, in terms of the numbers that the Care Inspectorate Wales permit us to host at our base in Ysgol Glan Morfa. This means 16 children in the morning and sixteen in the afternoon, and a staff consort of four full time workers to look after them. Although our numbers reduced slightly in September and our staff reduced to three, this is not unusual and we expect numbers to rise again from January onwards.

In terms of the Staff we were sad to bid farewell to Shanade Dibble as Cylch Assistant, but we recruited another Cylch parent, Kiran Kaur as our 121 Assistant and she was confirmed on full time terms. Kiran will be leaving us on maternity leave in January 2024 and we are in the process of recruiting her replacement.

Our Leader Bethan Trott has been our rock over the past year and clearly the Cylch she organises with her team is appealing to parents in the local area. Some highlights this year have included Lleucu completing her Play Work Qualification in January 2023 and being promoted to Deputy Leader. We are proud of her development over the past twelve months and what a great story for our Cylch her development from parent to volunteer to apprentice to employee is. Bethan completed her Transition to Play Qualification in February and Kiran Kaur is working hard to complete her childcare qualification. In February 2022 we had a health check from Mudiad Meithrin to help us prepare for a CIW inspection. Bethan has been working together with the team to get things ready and prepared.

My team of Trustees, namely Sian Regan, Tessa McBride, Keeron Stone, Rory McBride and Treasurer of the Year Aled Phillips have worked tirelessly, and for nothing all year. They have helped maintain the finances, ensure we comply with our regulatory duties, covered a complicated payroll arrangement and even helped out as volunteers when needed. We have a great camaraderie and mutual support for each other at stressful moments which is crucial for any organisation. I salute these five. Sadly Sian and Tessa will resign as Trustees formally this evening, and after four years I will relinquish the

Chairman role to Rory, who I am sure will do a fantastic job moving the Cylch forward.

We benefit from, and to an extent are insulated by a fantastic arrangement from the School who provide us the space at a minimum rent, and a dedicated ’ support worker in Mrs Mullane. Bethan has reported to me how the School s support has been crucial and we thank Mr Thomas and his Staff for their continued support.

We thank and appreciate the support of our funders. The Welsh Government for the 30 Hour Childcare offer is an absolute godsend for us. The funding comes directly to us and allows us to plan ahead and increase staff number where needed. We have also enjoyed the reassuring support of Mudiad Meithrin throughout the year.

Our financial situation, as you will see from our accounts, is stable, however you will see that our payments to agencies for cover staff are significant. We have addressed this by welcoming Rhian Craig as a bank worker, and anyone else with Childcare qualifications is invited to join our Bank list.

Notwithstanding the issue of agency fees I am delighted to say that in 2022/3 we became a Living Wage Employer, meaning pay rises for all our Staff, to help on a difficult winter. As a parent the notion that childcare should be a poorly paid career has always stunned, not to say appalled me and I hope we can play our part to buck that trend. Our brilliant staff certainly deserve no less.

Finally we welcome anyone who would like to join us on the committee moving forward –the opportunity to put on social events is there so please do speak to us afterwards if you are interested in getting involved.

Thanks once again to everyone involved in Cylch Meithrin Ysgol Glan Morfa, I am truly honoured and humbled to have Chaired this wonderful organisation, and hand over to Rory hopefully from a position of stability and strength. Ymlaen!

Thomas Crockett

Chair, Cylch Meithrin Ysgol Glan Morfa, December 2023
