Kelsterton under 5’S Annual Report for financial year 2023 to 2024

Kelsterton under 5’s is a charity run playgroup, who aims to provide high quality daycare in a safe and stimulating environment, to enhance development, where they learn through play, working in partnership with parents and outside agencies.

We offer sessions Monday to Friday 8.45 – 11.30 and 12.15 to 14.45 or extended session 8.45 – 14.45, where children stay for lunch. We also offer wraparound care for the children attending the local school nursery. We are currently in the process or completing a new registration with CIW to re-locate to the local school, which would provide parents with full wrap around care using the before and after school, and giving ourselves a perment location in a school surrounding’s.

We accept children who receive Flying Start funding, and also the 30 hour childcare offer plus private payers, hopefully with the move into the school the move would benefit ourselves and school with offering the full wrap around care, which would improve both ourselves and school’s intake. Both the 30 hour childcare offer and Flying Start children continue to increase and along with private pays fees received this year is £62,661.60 which is £21,393.55 increase from last year.

We received a £19,800.00 capital grant through the local authority in connection with the 30 hour childcare offer, which will be used to further to enhance the outdoor area to enhance the children’s learning in a safe and secure area. A further £500 grant from Flying Start for equipment.

We paid out £8,600 in rent with the daily rate staying the same, with no increase as agreed with landlord last year.

Staff are all enrolled eventually for the required new Safe Guarding and First Aid qualifications required by the new minimum standards. Due to courses being available but fully booked these qualifications should be completed by October 2024, course fees will show on next year’s accounts. Staff also continue to further their knowledge and understanding by attending essential training i.e Prevent Duty and food hygiene.

Due to the number of children attending and the tragic loss of our collegue a further 2 part time members of staff have been employed, who are receiving on going training.

Our staff continue to encourage good social skills, lots of praise and encouragement in all areas of learning and are excellent role models to the children, which allows the children to be happy and feel safe and secure in their environment, whilst making friends, having fun and learning through play.

The total amount of money to be carried forward is £28,783.86.
