## **– TRUSTEE ANNUAL REPORT APRIL 2020 APRIL 2021**
The Gambia went into lockdown on March 18[th] 2020 and UK Volunteers staying at the project site were repatriated in early April due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The COVID pandemic made it more difficult for TforC to continue with programme activities. In the beginning of the pandemic focus was made on community education on how to avoid the virus and providing people with handwashing facilities to help stop the spread of the virus. Project staff also helped with food distribution to local communities with food donated from several different sources.
Other activities and achievements during this period:
- Bantaba and café area built and garden cleared and planted
- Sale of bread from the bakery to the community. Unfortunately, the bakery was then damaged during the rains and is now in a state of disrepair
- Opportunities were explored into raising and selling guinea fowl as an income generator and a pilot project started
- 3 UK volunteers joined the programme for 4 months from January 2021. They worked on establishing a food garden at the project site and worked with the Women’s gardening group, gathering information to be used to develop a Women’s food growing and permaculture project. The volunteers raised funds, the proceeds of which was spent on buckets, seeds and fertiliser for the Women’s group. The water supply was extended with pipes and extra taps so that women did not need to carry heavy buckets so far to water their gardens
- Repairs and painting the TforC project house
- Accommodation build has begun for volunteers and guests to stay in as part of the Volunteer programme
- Ongoing fundraising
- Supported and helped develop MMP records to develop young Gambian artists and helped host music events showcasing their work.
