Governing Document

The Company (The Mission”) was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association amended and adopted on 24 May 2019.

Directors & Trustees

The directors of the charitable company (''the Charity'') are its trustees for the purpose of the Charity Law and throughout this report are collectively referred to as the Trustees.

Trustee’s’ Report for the year ended 30 June 2023

The Trustees present their annual report with the financial statements of the Charity for the period ended 30 June 2023 and confirm that they comply with the Charities Act 1993, as amended by the Charities Act 2006 and 2011, the Articles and Charities SORP (FS 102).

History of the Charity

Imamia Mission East London UK Ltd was incorporate on 13 June 2018. On 24 May 2019 it was granted registered charity status with the Charities Commission of England and Wales under Charity number: 1183590. At the point of incorporation fixtures and fitting, office equipment, cash and bank and in hand were passed on to the charity.

Objectives of the charity

We have always, and will continue to, take our responsibilities of ensuring that our charitable activities contribute significantly to the advancement of Islamic religion in accordance with the principles and tenets of the Shi’ah Ithna Ashari Muslim faith and for the benefit of the public in particularly but not exclusively by:

  1. The advancement of education amongst the Muslim and Shi'a Ithna Ashari Muslim community

  2. The provision of facilities in the interest of social welfare for the recreation and leisure time occupation for those who are in need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity, disablement, poverty, or social or economic circumstances, in order to improve their conditions of life.

  3. To establish a Centre for Islamic services in the United Kingdom

  4. Maintaining mosque functions to hold prayers

  5. To perform and organise religious ceremonies or gatherings on births, marriages, death, divorce and similar occasions including conducting Islamic Civil Marriages and Divorces and to establish or support an alternative dispute resolution service (ADR) Hosting lectures and visits

  6. Celebrating Islamic festival

  1. Providing Islamic funeral and other services required by the community

  2. To enter into dialogue with other divine religions and to organise conferences and seminars to teach, lecture and disseminate the faith and moral values among Muslims and non-Muslims

  3. To establish or support a library or libraries or digital library or libraries

The Mission will be an accessible and welcoming venue whilst delivering the above objectives.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The Mission is controlled by its governing documents, Memorandum and Articles of Association. The board of Trustees administer the Mission. The Trustees meet three times a year, and there are committees covering finance and Personnel. The trustees are responsible for setting general policy, finalising and approving the annual plan and budget, monitoring the Mission and taking major decisions about the strategic direction of the charity and any capital expenditure. The Trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or any other financial benefits.

A Principal Administrator is appointed by the Trustees to manage the day to day operations of the Mission. To facilitate effective operations, the Principal Administrator has delegated authority, within terms of delegation approved by the Trustees, for operational matters including finance, employment and performance related activity. The Principal Administrator give his time freely and receive no remuneration or any other financial benefits.

Risk Management

The Board of Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the Mission is exposed, in the those related to the operations and finances of the Mission. These risks are formally documented and regularly reviewed, and the Trustees are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate the Mission’s exposure to significant risk. The Mission is also seeking to recruit additional Trustees so that our beneficiaries can benefit from further perspectives.

Achievements and Performance

The Mission has carried out a wide range of the activities in pursuance of its charitable aims including and not exclusive to the provision and delivery of:

Statement of Trustees Responsibilities

The Trustees are aware that Company Law requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of its incoming resources and application of resources, including its income and expenditure for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the directors are required to.

The charity's trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

The charity's trustees are satisfied that the internal controls operated to safeguard the Charity's assets are appropriated to the nature and scale of the Charity's operations.

The charity's trustees have assessed risks affecting the Charity and believe that safeguards against significant risks are in place as f: as practical.

Note 1: Accounting Policies

Accounting convention

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in

accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011, The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Incoming Resources

Incoming resources represents grants and donations from Local Authorities and other charitable bodies (on an accruals basis), together with donations and contributions to costs from participants and other interested parties.

Deferral of incoming Resources

Grants received during the year which relate to future periods are deferred to those future periods but are shown on the face of the statement of financial activities in accordance with the SORP.

Resources Expended

Resources expended are allocated to the particular activity where the cost relates directly to that activity. However, the cost of the overall direction and administration on each activity, comprising the salary and overhead cost of the central function, is apportioned equally across the board .

Taxation

The Charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund Accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

No remuneration directly or indirectly out of the charity was paid or payable to any trustee.

During the period no expenses were reimbursed to the trustees of the Charity.

Note 6: Taxation

Imamia Mission East London is a registered charity and is exempt under Part 1 of the Corporation

Tax Act 2010 on its income and Section 256 Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 on its Capital Gains. The Charity is registered for VAT and the expenditure excludes VAT where applicable.
