Responses to planning applicatons and trafc regulaton orders
59 planning responses were submited to planning applicatons across
Exeter. Campaign comments are regularly summarised in council
ofcers’ reports for the Exeter City Council Planning Commitee, and
plans have been amended accordingly, e.g. additon of
pedestrian/cycle links between new housing developments and
modifcatons to junctons to improve cyclist safety.

Dialogue with decision makers
Many leters, meetngs and questons to city and county councillors,

MP Ben Bradshaw in support of the Heavitree Actve Streets
Trial and Nurse’s Way proposals.

An in person workshop on effective communication. ## Media Exeter Cycling Campaign interacts with the wider public through print media. Daily trawling for relevant articles and letters in the main regional paper for the area, the Western Morning News, presents opportunities for people associated with Exeter Cycling Campaign to write letters to that newspaper to provide a personal perspective on current matters. Educaton ## Social media and newsleter We maintain an active presence on Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram, as well as sending out a regular newsletter to supporters. several public events

The campaign was invited to join an Exeter Connect
workshop on positve tpping points (and was commended
for the way the Campaign is afectng change).

Kidical Mass - logistcal support as well as having a heavy
atendance and promotng the campaign at the family cycle
rides calling for safer streets for children.

Campaign contnues to respond to planning
applicatons in Exeter (and also in Teignbridge and
East Devon district councils). The aim of this is to
challenge developers where their applicaton falls
short of natonal or local policy for the provision
of safe cycling (and walking) for people.
As a result of Campaign volunteers’ responses to
planning applicatons plans are sometmes amended
and formal planning conditons set when planning
permission is granted. e.g. cycle parking increased,
changing facilites added, pedestrian/cycle paths
added to link developments.
Such changes enable cycling for more people for
their everyday trips, helping to tackle the problems
of sedentary lifestyles and congeston and air
polluton and help to build communites in the
places where people live.
Public support
The Campaign makes a positve diference to the
lives of supporters and volunteers:

New volunteers have come forward
throughout the year to contribute their
tme and energy and to engage with city
and county leaders.

The Campaign contnues to receive thanks
from both citzens and elected councillors
for our engagement in the city.
Infrastructure improvements for safety and
accessibility
Over this reportng period the Campaign has:

met regularly with the lead DCC Transport
Ofcer for Exeter to seek to infuence the
county’s road planning.
●
pushed for and commented on the draf
long term cycling and walking plan
(‘LCWIP’) for Exeter.
●
made proposals for growing and improving
the cycle network in Exeter
The Campaign’s ‘Quick Win’ list is actvely used by
DCC to prioritse locatons for quick, low cost
changes on cycle routes. Some have already been
implemented, e.g. to remove obstacles, improve
signage, make drop kerbs, etc, to join up routes and
improve accessibilityfor adaptve cycles,child| 4 trailers and cargo bikes.
