## **`ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE`** 

## **`Charitable activities`**

ThroughoutthisreportingperiodtherehavebeenlimitingregulatoryrestrictionsimposedduetotheCovid19 epidemic.
Whilstmeetingswereacceptableforupto15peopleprovidedtheywerefromavulnerablecohort,thisfacility, whilst
used, was done so with caution and full consideration of safeguarding.
```

Underthesearrangements,whichvariedfrommonthtomonth,alternativeapproacheswereexercisedwithan emphasis
onmaintainingcommunicationanddirectsupportforthosewithmorecomplexissues.Facetofacecontactwas not
totallystoppedbutwhereithappenedthelegalrequirementsweremet,inparticular,socialdistancing,mask wearing
and latterly the need to take lateral flow tests.
```

Through successful applications for additional funding the following activities/services were supported.

## `East Sussex County Council Innovation Fund`

throughouttheperiod.Ithasafocusonveterans
afull-timeliaisonandsupportworkerandatemporary
ofarurallocationforoutdooractivitiesincludingathree-
monthlygatheringswithBBQsduringthesummerand
assistedinhelpingparticipants‘escape’fromtheirnormal
partfundingforfortnightlywellbeingandcopingmeetings
produceaweeklynewsletteranddistributeitbothelectronically
over70veteransand56otherorganisations.Thishelped
militarycommunity,localandnationally,information,advice
fortheprovisionofsmartphonesforthosejoining
```

Thisprovidedabackboneforoperationsthroughouttheperiod.Ithasafocusonveteransthatexperience alcohol
related problems, which would account for over 60% of ESVH participants.
```

```
Itprovidedanopportunitytoemployafull-timeliaisonandsupportworkerandatemporaryparttime administration
assistant. During the period a computerised management system was installed ‘In Form’, funded through this contract.
Thisprogrammeenabledtheacquisitionofarurallocationforoutdooractivitiesincludingathree-daysculpture course,
pendantcarving,woodlandmanagement,monthlygatheringswithBBQsduringthesummerandafamilies’lunchheld in
abarnlocation.Walksinthewoodsassistedinhelpingparticipants‘escape’fromtheirnormallifestyleandrelaxin a
countryside environment.
```

Thisfundalsoassistedinprovidingpartfundingforfortnightlywellbeingandcopingmeetingswhenregulations allowed.
It enabled transport costs to be covered for the period.
```

East Sussex County Council Community Fund
```

```
This provided specific Covid 19 funding to address the impact of the pandemic on veterans.
```

```
-Newsletter.ThisenabledESVHtoproduceaweeklynewsletteranddistributeitbothelectronicallyandbymail.By the
endoftheperiodcirculationcoveredover70veteransand56otherorganisations.Thishelpedenhancetheprofile of
ESVH within the third sector and with statutory bodies. It also provided an essential link with participants.
```

Contentincludednewsaboutthemilitarycommunity,localandnationally,information,adviceandguidanceon health,
wellbeing and coping, a weekly recipe, quizzes and cartoons.
```

```
-DigitalInclusion.ItprovidedfundingfortheprovisionofsmartphonesforthosejoiningESVHwithoutmeans of
communication.
```

```
 - Development of Web Site. A full time consultant was commissioned to revamp ESVH website.
```

East Sussex County Council Digital Fund
```

```
Thiswasafundtosupportthecommunity(includingveterans)andevolvedfromaprivateinitiativewhich required
formalgovernanceandmanagement.Asitreflectedandcouldaccommodatetheneedsofveterans,and provide
exposurefornewveteranparticipants,thisoperationalcollaborationenabledcontinuityofotherdigitalinitiatives which
only had limited funding. It was contracted for a period of 12 months to March 2022.
```

## `Military Covenant Fund` 

```
Engagementremainedessential,particularlyduringclosedownandisolation.Aregularcontactinsomeformbecame a
reminderforparticipantsthattherewasaplacetogotoorpersontocontact,whenotherpersonalstressors caused
anxieties, depression and in the worst case, suicidal ideation.
```

```
This fund allowed ESVH to blend this with the introduction of new ‘opportunities’ such as the provision of
```

- `Toiletry Kits. To improve personal hygiene and make participants feel better physically.` 

- `Food. Supplementary food boxes and ingredients to encourage and stimulate the habit of preparing simple recipes and` 

- `cooking of healthy meals, something many would not normally do.` 

- `Using Internet. Introduction of use of Zoom, ‘Whatsapp’, Facebook, the Web or emails. This fund provided 44 tablets` 

- `and communications were improved significantly, and remote meetings introduced.`

-MaterialsforActivities.Covidreinforcedtheneedtoopenupopportunitiesandstimulateparticipantstotry new
‘hobbies’.Artanddrawingkits,modelkits,recipebooks,carvingkitsallservedtoreinforcenewchallenges,workingto a
routine and achievement. This proved to lift self-esteem and broaden participants activity base.
```

-Comfort&Belonging.Thisareaaddressedtheneedtomakeparticipantsfeelgoodaboutthemselvesby marking
significantmilitaryanniversariessuchasVJDaywhenaboxofcakes,thattheywouldneverotherwisepurchase, were
delivered to them.

-FirstResponse.Thisprovided‘instant’fundstomeetemergencyrequirementsfromitemsofclothingtoshortterm B&B
ortheprovisionofafoodvoucher.Allweremadeoncontact,whereitwouldhavetakendays,weekstoachieve any
immediatesupportrequiredfromothercharities.Itwasidentifiedthatthiswasanareaofsupportthatrequires serious
consideration for the future, particularly where veterans with mental ill health are concerned.
```

enablingESVHtosustainitsserviceswhilstintroducingalternativewaystooperate,benefitingboththeorganisation and

## **`Basis of preparing the financial statements`**

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,havebeenprepared in
accordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancial Reporting
StandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',Financial Reporting
Standard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andthe Charities

remains appropriate to adopt a going concern basis of preparation in these financial statements.
