Independent Examiner’s Report
I report on the accounts of The Bury Project for the year ended 31[st ] December 2021 which are set out on the following page.
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and examiner.
The organisation's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011(the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of the independent examiner's report and examiner's statement.
I have examined the accounts with regard to section 145 of the Charities Act and the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission.
I confirm that no matter has come to my attention (in connection with the examination) which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
The accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
The accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
The accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a "true and fair" view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
! have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Trustees' Report for the period ended 31 December 2021
During 2021 we explored the possibility of recruiting new Trustees to expand the team. At the end of 2021 it was agreed that both Gordon Joyce and Tim Boaden would officially become trustees in 2022 following a time of active engagement with both of them.
Following relocation in 2021 David Sutherland resigned as a trustee on 07/01/2022.
Like other charities funding is a very real challenge and the efforts of the trustees were focused on securing sustainable funding where we can – a plan to increase our connection with both churches and individuals being a key part of this focus.
Achievements and performance
Demand for CAP Debt services remained strong throughout the Covid pandemic, although the mode of engaging with clients had to be flexible, with many cases being conducted through video and telephone calls.
The consequence of the ending of the 2020 Forever Manchester funding was that our Debt Centre Manager reverted back to working just two days per week.
After a challenging period for funding mid-year, a number of church, individual, and fund-raised donations helped to keep the debt centre open. We are grateful to all supporters for their ongoing support. Some key highlights from 2021 were:
-
28 clients registered in 2021 (2020: 25)
-
10 became debt free in the year (2020 : 3) These included 7 single person households and 3 family households.
-
7 volunteers accompanied the Debt Coach at meetings with clients.
The geographical distribution of clients across the borough was broadly the same as in 2020.
-
Bury 12 (2020: 11)
-
Prestwich 6 (4)
-
Radcliffe 5 (5)
-
Whitefield 5 (5)
Yours
