Objectives and activities

The Bury Project (TBP) was set up in Bury as a cross Christian church charity with the vision of ‘creating hopes & building futures’.

Our first project is the provision of CAP (Christians Against Poverty) Debt Centre in the Bury Metro area to serve people encountering or about to encounter personal financial difficulties

We continue to explore further opportunities.

Achievements and performance

With the Covid pandemic impacting communities in 2020 we saw an increase in the services of our CAP Debt Centre which was made even more challenging with the lack of face-to-face meetings given the guidelines coupled with some people reticent to come forward in the current climate. A more flexible and creative approach was therefore needed. A very challenging time but a reminder of the importance of the need for our services.

One highlight was securing of some short funding from Forever Manchester enabling our debt centre manager to work for 3 days i.e., 1 extra day.

Ongoing challenges exist around funding with a reliance of one-off grants and donations outside of the regular church and individual supporters to meet the running costs of the Debt Centre.

Some key highlights from 2020 were:

In terms of clients, we have a healthy geographical spread around the borough as follows:

The demand for the services coming into 2021 remains strong.

Structure, governance and management

The governing document was based on the CIO Foundation Constitution with a minimum of three trustees.

Approved by the trustees on 5[th] August 2021 and signed on their behalf by:
