A Common Word Among The Youth
The Trustees present their annual report and accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025.
The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practise (SORP) Accounting and Reporting by Charities issued in March 2005, the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entitles (effective April 2008) and the Companies Act 2006.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charity Commission guidance.
Objectives and activities
A Common Word Among the Youth (ACWAY) is a global youth movement that brings together young changemakers from diverse backgrounds who are committed to interfaith action and peacebuilding. ACWAY seeks to increase the understanding of different faiths and cultures, promote peace and coexistence, and develop the skills and capacity of young changemakers to take local action on issues within their own communities.
The main objects of the charity can be summed up as the following:

1) Train young people to be active citizens.

2) Empower young people to deliver local community activities that promote peace and understanding.

3) Organise events, conferences and campaigns to promote cohesion and understanding between different communities and cultures.
Public benefit
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
Achievements and performance
OVERVIEW
A Common Word Among the Youth (ACWAY) is a global youth movement that brings together young interfaith practitioners from a multitude of backgrounds to increase understanding of different cultures and faiths, promote peace and coexistence, develop skills to help local communities and deliver shared solutions in the form of local action.
ACWAY has organized seven forums to date: six in- person international forums in Morocco (2015), Australia (2016), Sudan (2017), Azerbaijan (2019), Italy (2021), Qatar (2023) and one online international forum for the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week in February 2021.
ACWAY has continued to work on strengthening its capacity and evaluate some of it activities and engagement with young people.

Celebrated 10-Year Anniversary
ACWAY marked 10 years of impact, reflecting on growth, leadership development, and global reach of its fellows and community. The organisation highlighted the journey of hundreds of youth from 85+ countries engaging in interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding activities. (LinkedIn)

Participation & Representation in Global Forums
As part of its ongoing international engagement, ACWAY fellows were actively involved in forums connected to the G20 Interfaith Forum and associated activities, including youth representation, dialogue, and leadership roles at these events. (LinkedIn)
Preparations and contributions toward the G20 Interfaith Youth Forum (Cape Town, Aug 2025) took place within this period, where ACWAY acted as a co-organiser and key youth partner, emphasizing interfaith action and youth leadership. (acway.org)
Youth Engagement & Dialogue
ACWAY continued to support and highlight interfaith dialogue led by young people, including online and in-person discussions on topics such as coexistence, peacebuilding, community engagement, and religious literacy. Fellows from various countries were showcased engaging audiences and communities both online and locally.
Capacity Building & Thought Leadership
The organisation’s activities reinforced training and capacity-building efforts for youth changemakers, focusing on empowering them to deliver grassroots interfaith and community actions. (LinkedIn)
Online Community & Social Presence
ACWAY maintained an online presence where fellows and participants interact, share insights, and build community around shared peacebuilding goals. There were social posts highlighting fellows and their contributions in interfaith spaces. (LinkedIn)
Structure, governance and management
Nature of governing document
The charity is a Charity Incorporated Organisation and registered with the Charity Commission on the 23 May 2019 (Charity reg: 1183542).
Financial Review
During the period, the charity received total income of £4k (2022: £Nil). After incurring cash payments of £12.7k (2024: £21.7k, the carried forward cash fund balance stood at £22.6k (2024: £31.2k).
Reserves Policy
The trustees believe that the charity has sufficient cash in the bank and adequate fund-raising plans in place to ensure the charity is able to meet its costs.
Trustees' responsibilities statement
The trustees are responsible for preparing the trustees' report and the financial statements in accordance with the United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) and applicable law and regulations.
The law applicable to charities requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

• observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;

make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and

prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the applicable Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations, and the provisions of the constitution. The trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

1. Accounting policies
- (a) Basis of preparation
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charity Commission guidance.
(b) Charity status
A Common Word Among The Youth was established as a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) Foundation and is registered with the Charity Commission under the reference of 1183542. The Trustees are appointed and function in accordance with the deed.
(c) Fund accounting
General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.
Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes. The cost of raising and administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.
(d) Receipts
All incoming resources are included in the Receipt & payment Accounts when the charity actually receives legally entitled income.
(e) Payments
All expenditure is accounted for on payments basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with use of the resources.
