In September 2022 Earl Shilton Baptist Church joined with the network of churches known as LBC (Londonderry Baptist Church, Charity Number 1197875) and are now known locally as LBC Earl Shilton. The network are supporting Earl Shilton church in its principle purpose to advance the Christian faith locally and wider to other parts of the world.

The principal purpose of the Church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination. The Church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world.

In order to achieve our purpose, and with regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit, the Trustees report the following activities that have been undertaken in the reporting period: 

- Weekly church services run, mainly in person but with a Zoom option for those unable to attend. 

- Regular Bible study groups, in person and/or online 

- Contributed to the running of a local Foodbank; during the last year we have begun making plans for this Foodbank to be hosted in our church.

- Community Hub, meets weekly, providing drinks and snacks, friendship and fellowship to members of the local community. A Christians Against Poverty life skills course runs out of this periodically. 

- During 2023, the Mobile Community Pantry has set up a site at LBC Earl Shilton on Tuesday afternoons, in coordination with the Hub and Warm Space. This is an external organisation (supported by Cadent) whose social mission strongly ties in with our social activities. 

- Links and support to LBC Pakistan church.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

During 2023 we found several changes to the way that LBC has operated, in particular with an increasing focus on our social action through the activities on a Tuesday. As in 2022, we extended the hours of this to support a “warm space” for those struggling with the cost of living and with heating their houses. We were also joined by the Mobile Community Pantry, which provides discounted food items for people in need. This initiative, supported by Cadent, also involves contact with NGOs and Citizens’ Advice, who periodically send representatives along. 

While meeting the physical needs of disadvantaged members of the community, these events also practically demonstrate the love that Jesus called us to show (see, for example, Matthew 25:34-40, James 2:15-16). Several people we meet on a Tuesday have begun to join us in worship on Sundays as well. 

Our Sunday worship services continue a key part of our work, and attendance fluctuates quite strongly but with a good core of about 20-25 people. We have a group of people within the church who will lead services and preach, and the LBC leadership in Birmingham send us speakers, usually twice a month, to help share the load. We continue to advertise and search for a minister, although our financial situation means that we cannot promise long-term support at present. We have also joined together on several occasions for united services with the other churches in Earl Shilton. 

In the Summer we put on our second free barbecue for the local community, providing food (of course) and also fun activities for individuals and families. This was well attended, reaching around 200 people from the local area. We plan for this to be an annual event, although are considering the best date on which to run it.

As standard we hold 3 months’ full running cost in reserves. **Brief statement of the** We are actively seeking a minister, and have secured the promise of **charity’s policy on reserves** financial support towards this from the East Midlands Baptist Association. Even with that in place, our finances are such that, barring some sizable change in income, any form of ministry will require an operating loss. We are therefore actively working to raise our reserves to the level required to guarantee an office holder a 3-year contract with our current income; this equates to reserves of circa £85,000 (not including the standard 3 months’ running costs).

During the year we also sold a portion of unusued land abutting our car You **may choose** to include park. The proceeds to this are subject to restrictions based on the additional information, where Charitable Trust, and the money is held in trust for us by the Baptist relevant about: Union Corporation. We expect to invest some of this money in capital the charity’s principal improvements to the grounds.
