The charity's objective5 are lo promote health and wellbeing to patients and their loved ones affected by melanoma

The charity achieves ils objectives through the provision of several services supported by volunteers which
includes..
Counsellillg - Melanoma-me Foundation is a charity like no other that provides a holistic support programme for
people who are emolionallyl mentslly or physically affected by the disease. We have a team of 8 counsellors who
have helped thousands of people over the past 7 years that are affected by malignant melanoma either by their own
diagnosis or their loved ones. Additionally we have supported individuals who have lost their loved ones lo the
disease. Melanoma is a unique and lonely disease because the very thing that causes the cancer cannot be
avoided -the Sun. Individuals who are living with the disease fear the sun and anxiety is al an al￿tIme high during
the summer month5. In addition to this, individuals fear recurrence as there is no all clear as with other cancers.
Melanoma can be very aggressive and relentless 2nd we have supported individuals at the end of life Ici come to
terms with death and dying. Identity and Iraurna can be a prevalent issue for those with melanoma. Effects ol
treatment and medication can change a person's physical appearance as well as having a lasting menta and
emotional impact on an individual. The counselling we provide helps people to Come to temis with thar diagnosis,
process trauma and is helpful towards creating a more positive futtjre by developing strategies to reduce anxiety
and loneliness.
Rolkl and complementsry theraples
In addition lo the counselling and support we provide, Melanoma-me
expanded our services lo include Reiki and complementary therapies within the foundation. Both Reiki and

build up strong support nebNorks, lo reduce loneliness and isolation and improve mental health. The support groups
are all facilitated by a counsellor and are attended by our service users. More recently our groups have grown,
showing the increasing need for this service. The many themes for our groups include..

Achievements and perfomianco
Blrthday - A￿hough Melanoma-me sel up a$ a GIC in 2017, Melanoma-me Foundation registered formally as a
charity in 2019. We were delighted ID celebrate 7 years Df providing support for people affected by malignant
melanoma and raising awareness of the disease.ln this lime our community has grown significantly not only with
beneficiaries but also with the wider community who are invested in the charities growth and help through
fundraisers and events.
Toms Fest Tom's Fest is a festival held in memory of a local young man Tom Linlon who passed away from
malignant melanoma in 2020 al only 20 years old. Melanoma-me foundation worked closely with Tom's family lo
host a musical festival for the third year. that was not only a celebration of Tom's life but an awareness campaign
targeted towards young people. Malignant melanoma is still a very much misunderstood disease and Tom's story
highlights the Importance of early detection as Tom's melanoma was diagnosed late, having spread lo other organs.
Leading up lo his diagnosis he had no awareness of melanoma and his last wish was lo raise awareness of the
disease so that he can prevent other people from going through what he did. He died only 5 months after his
diagnosis. Reaching young people has always been a difficult task as they are a demographic that lives in the
present moment and don't give attention lo potential future risks. Torn's Fe5t Is an Ideal awareness campaign that
helps us to raise awareness incidentally by hosting a musie festival underpinned by melanoma awareness. The
numbers of allendees grew significantly in 2024 meaning that we could raise more awareness with the younger
demographic. The planning for Tom's Fest 25 Is already underway.
Tom's Fest medla campaign - Leading up lo Tom's Fesl, we work very closely with the media lo help us lo
highlight the cause and raise awareness of the disease. We were invited lo talk about both on ITV n￿S and this
was also shared by local and national newspapers. The public reaction was outstanding and we received hundreds
of messages from people who were now gelling skin checks as a result of hearing about Tom's story which
inevitably led to melanoma diagnoses thankfully at an early stage. This reach led lo a gentleman who was already
aware of 8 changing lesion Ibul was not forthcoming in getting a skin ¢he¢kl getting il assessed and received an
early diagnosis. Our own media campaign through our social media reached over 143,000 individuals and highlights
our goal of raising awareness.
School Sun Safety Campaign In the run up to Tom's Fest we held a competition in 10 local schools. who all look
part in fftising awareness by creating posters, sun safety kits and p￿sentationS lo show what they had learned
about sun safely thanks lo our resources. The winners of this competition received tickets lo Tom's Fest and we had
an 80% attendance of the winning lickels. showing the awareness we created had an impact on young people.
Beauty Campaigns - In the run up lo Melanoma Awareness Month we created three campaigns lo be rolled
throughout the beauty industry,. Gel Your Socks Off, Tanathon and Eyes in the Back of Your Head. The
campaigns focused on professionals who have close acces5 to clients bodies that they may not be able lo see for
themselves. Melanoma-me trained the individuals involved in helping lo identify the featLJres of suspicious lesions.
Skydive - We hosted our second annual skydive. with members of our community raising funds and awareness for
Melanoma-me. This day was such a success il was decided it would become an annual event, where 14
partlcipants signed up for 2024.
Butterfly Ball - In November 2023 we held our 6th Butteffly Ball in memory ofAmanda Seymour. Amanda was due
lo attend our first Butterfiy Ball in 2017 bul tragically passed away before the event. We have Sin￿ dedicated the
ball to her memory. The first ball was allended by 67 people and 2023.5 ball was a sell out of 350 people with a
reserve list. The growth of the ball coincides with the growth of the Charity and the public support behind us.
Amanda was diagnosed as an early-stage melanoma which sadly returned after 5 years of being NED INO
Evidence of Disease) and her story is incredibly important with eneouraging people to be vigilant. During the
evening we share Amanda's story and raise awareness of the disease. During the event we use the platFomi to
acknowledge individuals who are navigating the disease by carrying out an award presentation.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 APRIL 2024
Awareness training Melanoma-me Foundation created the first awareness campaign of ils kind, designed lo
raise awareness of malignant melanoma with people who work in close ¢onlacl with other people (nurses,
hairdressers, beauty Iherapisls et¢) The purpose of the training was lo share infomialion with the delegate lo help
them lo be able to identify a suspicious lesion and lo communicate this with the serwce user so that they can get il
medically examined. The course was delivered face lo face bul during the pandemic we converted lo orfine training
and we were able lo reach out lo people nationally. The course has helped lovefl 70 people lo receive a malignant
melanoma diagnosis eady and ha5 been truly lifesaving. We work directly with barbering academies who are in
prime position lo recognise anything suspicious on their clien15. Men are notoriously late at receiwng a rnalignanl
melanoma diagnosis and one of the reasons for this is because they are more likely lo have 8 melanoma in areas
that they cannot see for themselves. 11 is Iheretore imperative that they are made aware of anything suspicious so
that they ean have il medically assessed. In early 2024 we decided lo rebrand the training lo 'TIME' an acronym for
Training Information Melanoma Education making il more accessible and prevalent for close contact melanoma
awareness.
Worklng wlth the Cancern Network - Melanoma-me are proud to be part of the Can￿M Network which is a
VCSE organisalion Covering the North East of England that bring cancer charities and organisalions together lo
reate a holistic approach for people affected by cancer.
SSE - We began a hugely impactful collaboration with SSE who employ a vast amount of outdoor workers. The
collaboration began with the purchase of 4 thousand of our UV colour change wristbands which were distributed lo
their outdoor workers lo help them to recognise when to wear suncream and PPE. SSE are very passionate in
supporting the cause and have since decided to sponsor our various campaigns such as Tom's Fest and the
Butteffly B811 and we are hopeful lo continue this meaningful relationship.
Collaboration with Hays Travel - For many years we have considered the impact melanoma awareness ¢ould
have by collaborating with holiday companies. We were delighted to be approached as a Charity partner for Hay's
Travel Washington who have completed several fundraisers and distributed our flyers and mole monitoring cards
IhroughoLJt their branch, thus raising awareness with people who will be Iravelling lo holler countries and
encouraging vigilance and prevenlalive measures.
Splre Hospltal Washlngton We collabor8led with the Spire Hospital Washington to help support 8 health event
where Melanoma-me was nominated as their chosen charity. The premise was lo hold a fundraising and awareness
national event amongst the many hospitals in the UK 'a thousand mile challenge,
We were delighted that Spire
Washington won the whole competition and raised essential funds for MelanoTna-Me.
GNR- We had 10 charity spaces for GNR and had a large uptske in people who wantec¢ lo run for Melanoma-me to
not only raise funds but valuable awareness of the disease.
New Hub for the charity - As we ended the year 2023 it became apparent that the hub we were currently in was
quickly being outgrown. In earty February we found a new building that was perfectly placed lo suppot the growth
and development of the charity. Al over twice the size of the previous hub we are now able lo provide more support
and counselling as well as a ready made training room whefe we can host awareness sessions and groups with 8
growing number of delegates. We also have 8 therapy suite and a family room for group counselling sessions.
Financial roview
Total income for the year was £157,681 (2023.. £227.0551 and lolal expenditure for the year was £150,61612023'.
£124,779) leaving an overall surplus of £7.065 (2023.. £102.2761.
We would like to thank all of the generous people and organisalions who have donated to us over the past 12
months.

Reserves pollcy
It is the policy of Ihe charity that free reserves lunreslricted reserves not lied up in fixed or other long lem assets)
should be maintsined al a level equivalent ID be￿een six and nine month's expenditure. The trustees considers that
reserves al this level will ensure that. in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the
charity's current activities while consideration is given lo ways in which additional funds may be raised.
Al the year end the charity had lolal ￿SeNe$ of £180,50512023 £173.4401, £52,50012023 '. £87.5001 of which are
slricled funds and £128,00512023 . £85,940) of which are unrestricted reserves. The free reserve of the charity
amount lo £88,00512023 £85,940) al the year end. The current level of reserves are slightly above the largel of six
8nd none month's expenditure, however this was due lo the charity's concerns with the cost of living crisis and also
with building reserves to be able lo expand services.
Plans for future perlods
Melanoma-me is in a fantastic position to grow and develop over the next 12 months and we are plaming new
strategies and projects..
Ambassador programme We are looking into ways in which we can bring in more volunteers to support the
charity and help us to reach out nationally. We will be looking into supporting volunteers with awatEness events,
C8mpaigns and fundraising aetiviles.
Collaboration with Thomas Pocklington Trust and Check 4 Cancer
The sighlloss community are at a
significantly higher risk of dying from melanorna due lo not being able to recognise the initial signs of melanoma
leading lo later stage diagnosis. We will be working closely with the Thomas Pock11nglon Trust who provides support
for people with visual impairment and Check 4 Cancer clinics that offer full body skin checks nab"onally. This Is in the
preliminary stages and we hope lo be rolling out a pilot scheme by mid 2025
Newcastlo Alrport Campalgn - We will be rolling out an awareness campaign during August 2024 al Newcastle
Airport on their large billboards. This is an initiative lo help to peak the interest of holidayrnakers and encourage
healthier behaviours in the sun as well as vigilance of their skin while on holiday.
SSE - We will be looking into collaborating again wth SSE during 202*2025 and developing the awareness we are
already raising with their outdoor workforce.
Soundbaths - As part of our holislie programmes we will be offering more therapies including regular soundbalhs
which have proven essentia5 health benefits including reducing stress, calmer mind, relaxation and a greater feeling
of wellbeing.
National coun$elling provisions - During the Covid Pandernic all of our counsellors retrained to be able lo offer
online provisions such as telephone and zoom counselling. We are hoping lo grow this during 2024- 2025
Counselling support Llne We are adding 8 new provision to our counselling services by introducing a single
session support line for people who need immediate support. This helpline will not only help people through anxiety.
51ress, grief, any other dilemmas a person with cancer or their loved one may face bul wll also be a triage service
