**became clear that our focal event – the**
**Medieval Festival – could not take place as**
**planned in June 2020 due to government**
**restrictions on large gatherings. Regular**

**maintained via our social media channels**
**which elicited public support for the event to**
**return once restrictions were lifted.**
**Trustees devoted themselves to maintaining**
**public awareness of the battle and in particular**
**through developing plans to commemorate its**
**550th anniversary in April 2021. These plans**
**included a walk along the route taken by**
**Edward IV as he marched with his troops from**
**Smithfield to Barnet on the eve of battle. The**
**continued restrictions meant that both this**
**walk and a memorial service to mark the**
**anniversary on 14th April 2021 would have to**
**be restricted to a handful of invited guests**
**only. Social media channels were used instead**
**to share these anniversary events with the**
**public:**

**Trustees also developed a range of**
**memorabilia, focussing on commemorative**
**mugs in two designs and also t-shirts and**| |||**hoodies printed with the dates of the battles**

**proved to be of great interest to the**
**community, generating interest in the battle**
**and its wider historical context. When we ran**
**stalls at a series of markets, once lockdown**
**regulations eased, it also provided a good**
**opportunity to further raise awareness of the**

**determination to mount their display of the**
**recreated banners displaying the coats of**
**arms of the noble houses involved in the**

**allowed under government restrictions, our**
**objectives centred on maintaining and**
**expanding community awareness of the Battle**
**of Barnet and its Festival, and devising**

**will show a profit well in excess of £2000 –**
**and will also show this new trading activity as**

**write to our local MP to enquire whether, in**
**these highly unusual times, the government**
