## **Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of Frimley Green and Mytchett Trustees Annual Report for 2022 Financial Year**

## **Aim and Purposes**

St Andrew’s Frimley Green and Mytchett Parochial Church Council (PCC) has the responsibility of co-operating with the Incumbent the Reverend Suresh Menon, in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish, the whole mission of the church, pastoral, evangelistic and social.

The PCC and the Churchwardens are also specifically responsible for the maintenance of the Church building and hall of St Andrews Frimley Green & Mytchett.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and to become part of our church family at St Andrews. Our services and worship put faith into practice through prayer, scripture and music.

When planning our activities for the year, the Incumbent and the PCC have considered the Commission’s guidance on public benefit, particularly the specific guidance for charities on the advancement of religion.

We try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our church family through:

- Worship and prayer;

- Learning about the gospel and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus through the preaching and teaching of the Bible;

- Provision of pastoral care for people living in the parish;

- Missionary and outreach work.

To facilitate this work it is important that we maintain the fabric of our Church Building and its Church Hall.

## **Achievements and Performance**

## _Worship and Prayer_

The PCC offer a range of services on a Sunday alongside religious study and other groups during the week and over the course of the year the church community finds these both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling.

All are welcome to attend our regular services. At present there are 96 parishioners on the Church Electoral Roll. The average weekly attendance, counted during October was 74 adults and 22 under 16s.

As well as regular services, we hold Weddings, Funerals and Christenings throughout the year.

## _Deanery Synod_

Two members of the PCC sit on the deanery synod. This provides the PCC with an important link between the parish and the wider structure of the Church of England.

## _The Church Building and Church Hall_

A Quinquennial inspection was carried out on 3 October 2022. No major problems were identified and the report was very positive about both the work we have carried out since the last Quinquennial inspection and our ongoing maintenance of our church buildings. The Quinquennial inspection highlighted several minor non-urgent works that will need to be addressed over a period of time.

We believe that the only current existing issue is some mould appearing on the inside of the church building roof. We instructed a specialist environmental engineer to examine the problem. His belief was that the cause of the problem was the temperature inside the church. His recommendation was to increase and monitor the church building temperature throughout 2022 and assess the result. The final report (received in April 2023) confirmed that increasing the temperature has worked and the mould has reduced substantially. We will continue to keep the church building at the recommended temperature at all times and continue to monitor the situation.

During 2022 we noticed a small leak coming from the roof in the Church Hall. We continue to monitor this situation but no action is required at present. Regular maintenance and repairs will continue as usual.

## _Pastoral Care_

Our activities normally include:

- Sunday afternoon teas for the elderly;

- Baby and toddler group for pre-school children;

- Friday coffee morning for anyone who wants to attend;

- Youth Worship Band practice and Young Adults’ Hang-out;

- Work in local schools;

- 3 x Sunday children’s groups for all ages (taking place during our Sunday service);

- Midweek Bible study groups for members of the church family.

## **Financial Review**

Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £117,476. £79,557 spent on the parish share together with £4,470 on capital projects. Salaries and Honoraria was £24,057.

## **Reserve Policy**

It is PCC policy to maintain a balance on unrestricted funds (if possible) which equates to at least three months’ unrestricted payments, equivalent to £30,000. It is our policy to invest funds with the CBF Church of England Deposit Fund.

## **Volunteers**

We would like to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make our church the community it is.

## **Structure, governance and management**

In addition to the PCC, as required by law the church has a Standing Committee appointed by the PCC. This Committee has the power to transact the business of the PCC between its meetings, subject to any directions given by the PCC. It is composed of:

Rev Suresh Menon Andrea Timms Lynne Fergusson Margaret Nelson Jonathan Hayles

The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church Representation Rules. At St Andrew’s the membership of the PCC consists of the Incumbent, Churchwardens, Treasurer and elected members from the Church’s electoral roll. All those who attend the church and who are on the electoral register are encouraged to stand for election to the PCC.

The PCC members are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the parish with particular regard to deciding on how the funds of the PCC are spent.

The Full PCC currently meets at least six times during the year.

The names of those who are serving on the PCC are:

Reverend Suresh Menon - Incumbent Andrea Timms – Chairman/Warden/Deanery Synod Lynne Ferguson – Treasurer/Warden/Deanery Synod Jody Davies Sarah Hawton Geoff Silk Margaret Nelson Jonathan Hayles
