KSCA Annual Progress Report – 2025 

The year 2025 marked a period of growth, transition, and community-building for the Kent Sikh Community Association (KSCA). Despite encountering several challenges, the Association continued to deliver meaningful events and services that fostered a strong sense of belonging and wellbeing among members. 

## **Organisational Development** 

The charity trustees were increased from 3 to 7 members.  Shinder Sandhu offered to resign as the lead trustee, however, the offer was rejected by the members so he continued in his position. 

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June saw the previous committee being voted to continue in their role, based on their valuable contribution and the benefits of them remaining. 

However, there were 2 ordinary members, who were no longer able to attend committee or general meetings, that replaced by 2 new members who were elected by the association members. 

## **Events and Community Engagement** 

KSCA successfully delivered a wide range of seminars and social events designed to educate, engage, and bring joy to the community: 

## Seminars 

We invited Dr Sahota to give a seminar to members, to support their knowledge and learning about meeting their own health care needs.  Dr Sahota helped members to learn about Diabetes, this included nutritional education on how to maintain blood sugar levels through exercise and diet.  Many members were unaware about the impact of their diet on their blood sugar levels and felt they could make better choices after listening to Dr Sahota. Dr Sahota also highlighted the importance of daily exercise and there was more enthusiasm for attending yoga classes. 

## Weekly Activities 

- Yoga Classes continued throughout the year, supported by funding from Kent Alive. These sessions have been beneficial to many members. However, the Association encourages greater participation to help maintain eligibility for future grant support. 

- There were some affordability issues when the cost hire of the hall for the Yoga Classes almost doubled.  We secured another venue at a cheaper rate, which was also more centrally located. 



S- The Association part-funded four well-attended social events that included dinners, which were immensely enjoyed by members. 

- KSCA members attended an event, organized by Sunny Sandhar of the Equality Commission, on the Sikh’s contribution to World War II. A small film was shown and there was also a play, which was attended by lots of members; who enjoyed learning about the history and also the refreshments which were generously provided by the hosts. 

- A Diwali celebration was co-organised with the Asian Women’s Group and hosted by Sunny Sandhar.  Attendance was higher than previous years and the event was enjoyed by those who took part. 

- A holiday trip to Sharm El Sheik Egypt was organised, offering members the opportunity to travel together. They enjoyed a 7-night all-inclusive stay at a 5-star hotel, benefitting from discounted travel – a highlight of the year for many. 

- A Chai and Samosa event in the lead-up to Christmas welcomed both members and nonmembers. It was well-attended and warmly received, and led to a noticeable increase in membership. 

## **Conclusion** 

KSCA closes 2025 with pride in its achievements and gratitude to its members. The year was marked by changes which strengthened the organisation and some new members were gained contributing to community spirit. 

We extend our sincere thanks to all committee members and association members for their cooperation and support throughout the year. With this continued commitment, KSCA is confident in its ability to grow and serve the community even more effectively in 2026.
