## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP
reference|||
|---|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20||During the year ended 31stAug 2022 our major
activities were to raise funds and make grants to
support the Greig City Academy (GCA) Sailing
Programme. We also continued discussions with
major sailing bodies about enhancing diversity in
the sport.
Fundraising
During the year, we raised a total of £105,627.
We received £47,500 in major grants from very
generous individual donors and family trusts. We
also received a grant of £9,550 from the RYA,
funded by the Sport England Together Fund. And
we received £2,000 of sponsorship from Cowes
Harbour Commission.
We received a total of £46,500 of other donations.
This includes many individual donations, received
as a result of appeals and fundraising activity
during the year. We were thrilled to be selected as
one of Cowes Week’s official charities, and are
extremely grateful for the support of the
organisers and competitors.
We were exceptionally honoured to receive
individual donations made in the memory of Sam
Richmond and Jamie Mears, whose lives and
sailing careers were tragically cut short. We strive
to live up to the faith their friends and family have
placed in us.
We are extremely grateful to all the donors and
volunteers who have supported our work. GCA’s
extraordinary sailing programme would not be
possible without them.
Grants made
We approved grants totalling £59,000 to the GCA
Sailing Programme during the year. In addition, a
number of other donors gave funds directly to
GCA to contribute to the costs of their sailing
programme.
Our grants, and this wider support, enabled the
GCA Sailing Programme to continue to provide
exceptional opportunities to state school students
from inner city London to develop confidence and
skills through sailing.
The GCA Sailing Programme is the leading school
sailing programme in the UK. No other school is
entering multiple boats to compete so effectively
at Cowes Week, while also entering students in
elite sailing events such as the Etchells Worlds
and the ILCA (Laser) Nationals.|

We believe the GCA Sailing Programme is also the leading initiative in promoting diversity and accessibility for young people of colour in sailing. Other activities We have supported GCA’s work to signpost other schools, to help them get more involved in sailing. We have also continued discussions with the RYA and other sailing bodies about how the lessons from GCA’s experience can be applied more widely to enhance diversity in sailing. We look forward to continuing all our work in the year ahead.
