## **EMERGING FROM COVID-19 & SUPPORTING STUDENTS** 

As with all charities, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound negative effect on the fund-raising capacity of FOSDA.  However, throughout successive lockdowns we have kept up a steady trickle of donations from the EasyFundraising App and Amazon Smile.  We again provided the Park & Ride Service for the annual Ashburton Food Festival in September 2021, and we donated half the proceeds to Unicef to help with crisis which was taking place in Afghanistan at that time. 

In April 2021, we were finally able to return to holding our own fund-raising events with a folk concert given by Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman.  Following this we ran a highly successful summer bonanza raffle which generated a huge amount of kind support from local businesses who donated prizes and the school and local community in buying tickets.  All proceeds from fundraising this year have been used to help subsidise curriculum enrichment trips which took place in July 2022. 

The Beehive breakfast club has now been taken under the wing of the main school and therefore our funding for this, and the support in buying supplies is no longer required.  We would like to gratefully acknowledge the absolute dedication of Carol Murray, Shell Hammond, Louise Ogley and our former Chair, Vee Michael, in providing this vital support to some of our most vulnerable students. 

The priority for fund-raising this year has been to raise money to support the curriculum enrichment school trips for years 7-9 in July 2022. 

Other key strands of support include funding Support to young carers at the school for which we were successful in bringing in a donation from Teignbridge Council of £500.  We were also successful in obtaining funding through the Co-op Community Fund scheme which will be used to support vulnerable families with food vouchers when the scheme provides its final payment in November 2022.  FOSDA is indebted to Mary-Anne Course for successfully biding for all of the grants which we have obtained for the school.  She really has made a huge difference to what we have been able to achieve since we were set up in four years ago.

## **Additional commentary on expenditure & income** 

## **Beehive Project** 

As mentioned at the beginning of this report, the Beehive breakfast club has now been taken under the wing of school and our financial and provisions support was no longer needed after the Autumn Term 2021. 

## **Curriculum Enrichment Trip Support** 

The proceeds from the folk concert held in April and the Summer Bonanza raffle, together with a proportion of our existing cash balance totalling £5,300 is due to be presented to school in the Autumn Term 2022.  This money has been allocated to support the curriculum enrichment trips in July 2022.  We are enormously grateful to the local community, generous business owners and the phenomenal energy of FOSDA volunteers for making the raffle such an amazing success. 

## **Ten Tors Fund-raising Trek** 

A 10 Tors-style trek was held in May 2022 organised by one of the PE teachers and a former parent.  This raised £5495.90 which has been collected and which will be allocated for 10 Tors equipment purchase for the school’s teams for the 2023 event.  This enables any child regardless of background to be able to take part in this unique and confidence-boosting experience by provision of what would otherwise be very expensive equipment. 

## **Teachers’ Resources Requests** 

The only teachers’ request funded this year was for teaching resources for the Mathematics department (£22.85) 

## **Ashburton Food Festival Park & Ride Service** 

We again provided the Park & Ride Service for the annual Ashburton Food Festival in September 2021, where we donated half the proceeds (£232.50) to Unicef to help with crisis which was taking place in Afghanistan at that time. 

## **Young Carers** 

Funding has been obtained from Teignbridge Council to support the young carers at South Dartmoor Community College (£500).  This has been used to fund trips to the coast for fish and chips and pizza evenings in order to provide some respite from the caring activities of these young people and to help them connect with each other, share experiences and support one another. 

## **Donations** 

Donations have been received to support the mental health well-being work of “The Place” at the school (a room where students can go for support and calm when suffering from stress or upset) and also to support students from more deprived backgrounds in accessing the arts (Eve Hayman donation).  Decisions on exactly how these funds will be spent will be made during the 2022-23 academic year.
