**Trustees Report Transforming Lives Today** ## **Mission Statement** Transforming Lives Today giving **Hope, Dignity** and a **Future to** vulnerable communities, especially children in deprived areas in India and Sri Lanka, such as villages, slums, leper colonies and orphanages. **TLT** work in partnership with local communities to see the lives of vulnerable children and adults transformed through **Education** , **Healthcare** and ## **Community Development** . The charity’s aim is to establish **Learning and Medical Centres** in these communities. The learning centres are run by local teachers and community leaders. The **TLT** medical centres and dispensaries are staffed with doctors and nurses from local hospitals on a voluntary basis. The work of **TLT** includes: - Medical camps - Typhoid &Hepatitis B vaccinations - Distributing small baby quilted mosquito net beds - Distributing blankets - Supplying toiletries - Clothing & foot wear - Food programs - Setting up Learning Centres - Women and children’s encouragement programs - Educating villages & slum areas with good health care and pro-life programs. ## **Organisational set up of TLT** TLT has four trustees and 2 missionaries, Sozos and Des Sozou (TLT team). TLT through Sozos and Des seek to develop strong relationships with local community leaders, doctors and pastors in the areas where TLT would like to introduce Educational and Health care programs. Before Sozo and Des travel to India or Sri Lanka, meetings are arranged between the trustees, Sozos and Des to plan and prepare for their trips. This planning would include the purchase of food, medical supplies and any equipment for the Learning Centres or medical camps and liaising with the local contacts and teams in India and Sri Lanka, so that when the **TLT** team arrive everything is in place. When the **TLT** team return to Europe the local teams which Sozo and Des have helped set up continue the work of the learning centres and medical camps. On returning to Europe the **TLT** team give a full account of the work they have been involved in. These reports include all financial transactions. Sozo and Des encourage volunteers from Europe to travel with them when they visit India and Sri Lanka. The local **TLT** teams that have been set up to run the learning centres and medical camps report to Sozo and Des, there is excellent communication between them. The local teams report monthly to **TLT** and at other times as needs arise. They are very dedicated and have proven to have a heart for all they do in improving the lives of those in the local communities of which they are part. ## **Fund Raising.** **Transforming Lives Today** ( **TLT)** is a charity seeking to raise funds to enable it to continue the works outlined above. The fund raising is achieved through - Supporters and friends - Power point presentations and Photographic exhibitions to church groups, schools and any interested parties. - Social media platforms - **TLT** website - Fund Raising events ## **See accounts for a breakdown funds raised from May 19-May 20** ## **- The Achievements of Transforming lives Today(TLT) from May 2019 May 2020.** ## **Health Care** Sozo and Des have built up good relationships with doctors and nurses in the areas where they have set up Medical Camps. **TLT** have 2 MOU’s (Memorandum of Understanding) with: 1. The Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital (Christian hospital) in Jalandhar, Punjab. Contact Dr. Jacob. 2. Garhwal Community development & Welfare Society (Christian hospital). Contact Dr. Rajesh. This hospital is situated in the isolated mountainous area of Uttrakhand. ## **Sozo and Des visited India for over a month in October/November 19 to oversee the medical camps and learning centres that TLT had set up and to report back to the trustees.** ## **1. Medical Camps in Hosiphour, India.** 2 medical camps took place in Hosiphour village under the supervision of Sozo and Des. Doctors and nurses from the Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital attended the clinic on a volunteer basis. **TLT** financed all the medicines and equipment. All the villagers (over 350) had a thorough medical examination including eye check-up. All those who attended the clinic were given appropriate medication and referrals **. TLT** also supported 4 eye surgeries for cataract operations to elderly villagers. All 4 operations were successful. ## **2. Medical Camps in Coimbatore, India** 2 medical camps took place in in Coimbatore village under the supervision of Sozo and Des. This village was of a similar size to Hosiphour and all villagers had a medical examination. The doctors and nurses came from the EM Hospital (Multi specialist care) on a voluntary basis. **TLT** set up the camps and financed all the medication. Eye examination were given to all and appropriate medication and referrals given. ## **3. Medical Camps in Uttarakhand Chamba, India.** Sozo and Des have built up a strong relationship with Dr. Rajesh and his wife who have established a hospital (Garhwal Community Development &Welfare Society). It is the only hospital in the area and is difficult for many to reach in the isolated mountainous region of Uttarakhand. **TLT** have provided the finance needed for Dr Rajesh to set up monthly medical camps in the outlying villages, this allows villagers to have regular medical check-ups, including eye examinations and receive the appropriate medication and referrals. This past year **TLT** have also financially supported 2 operations at the hospital: - A young mother whose baby died in the womb and needed emergency surgery - A boy of 10 yr. old boy suffering from Empyema Thorasis had a successful surgical operation. Both patients are doing well. The 10 year old attends the **TLT** learning centre in Uttarakhand. **TLT** also took care of all expenses for a 5 year old boy with a club foot, this problem was producing other problems to his other leg and hip. **TLT** took care of all medical costs for the boy to be checked by surgeons in Aims hospital. An operation was advised and a successful outcome was certain as he is still young. We are waiting to see if the parents will go through with the surgeon’s advice. The standard of equipment that Dr Rajesh has to use is very poor. **TLT** purchased a new **HYDRAULIC SURGICAL TABLE** to enable Dr Rajesh work more efficiently and safely. ## **Learning Centres** During their visit to India and Sri Lanka in Oct/November Sozo and Des visited the 3 Learning centres **TLT** have set up and financed, 2 in India and 1 in Sri Lanka. 1. In Coimbatore India with 12 children, ages 6-1. Attendance 3 days per week. 2. In uttarakhand India with 12 children, ages 6-11. Attendance 3 days per week 3. In Sri Lanka with 12 children, ages 6-11. Attendance 3 days per week. These learning centres are established in villages where there are many poor children who do not even have birth certificates and are not accepted in government schools. The Learning Centres prepares the children for the government schools by giving them a basic education. Many children on leaving the learning centres are then accepted in local government schools. TLT provide the finances so that all the children’s needs are met while at school. These include: - medical care - school uniforms - books - stationery - regular and substantial meals. At school the children learn basic English, Hindi, maths, music, art, good morals and hygiene. The teachers are given a small monthly salary. Every month a register of children’s attendance and subject sheets are recorded and sent to **TLT** administrator (Des in Cyprus), including photographs and purchase receipts of any items bought for the children. The **TLT** administrator is in continuous contact with teachers and carers on the development and behaviour of the children. Any urgent need for a child regarding health or other relevant matters is dealt with promptly by **TLT** . The dedication and caring attitude of the teachers and carers means the children have a safe, clean and happy environment in which to learn. ## **TLT’s aim is to pioneer more learning centres in new areas.** ## **Pastoral Care** **TLT** lay great importance in linking up and working with local pastors, men and women who live and work in the communities where **TLT** are actively involved. Due to current government legislation **TLT** vision is to give humanitarian aid to the poor and needy. ## **Women’s and Children’s Ministry** Every year when the TLT visit India the team takes the opportunity to invite women and children in the slum areas to health and personal hygiene programs. - Self-worth is taught, - that God loves and cares for them - Personal care and hygiene issues are taught, as is the pro-life message, in India baby girls are often rejected by their families. - Various activities and demonstrations are organised in the ministry programs. TLT encourages the children to have respect, love and care towards their families, friends and neighbours. That there is a God who loves and cares for them. After each ministry program food and refreshments are offered to all who attend, this gives time to share personally with the women and children. ## **During the Covid19 Lockdown** Sozo and Des were booked and ready to travel to India and Sri Lanka for a month in March 20 but because of the Covid19 Lockdown this trip had to be cancelled. The Lockdown has caused great hardship in parts of India however generous giving by the supporters of **TLT** and the excellent communication system that **TLT** has built up with local community leaders meant **TLT** was able to help. ## 1. **Food program in Coimbatore village, India** **TLT** financed a one-week food program for the Fox tribe village of over 120 men, women and children during lockdown. Villagers were unable to leave the village to work and support their families, they took to killing cats in order to survive. **TLT** pastor in India was granted permission by the authorities to shop and supply the village people. The pastor and his team faithfully prepared and cooked for the village for one week. A full report and pictures were forwarded from India. ## 2. **Food program in Coimbatore for 12 families.** With **TLT** financing the pastor and his team were granted permission to shop and provide food for 12 families. Full report and photographs ## 3. **Food program in Sri Lanka** Supplies of rice, flour, and sugar were purchased by **TLT** for a village where most of the population were blind with many widowed women.
