Chair's Reflection and Report

As I conclude my first year as Chair of ADNE, I reflect on a period that has been both challenging and rewarding for our organisation and associated Higher/Advanced Education Institutions (H/A EIs). Despite the hurdles, we have made significant strides in various areas, particularly as we have been in the process of seeking approval to offer district nursing programmes delivered in accordance with the updated 2022 NMC standards.

Acknowledgements

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to Julie Bliss for her unwavering support through the transition process and for her stewardship of the organization during her tenure during which time we were successful in our application to become a registered charity with the Charities Commission for England and Wales. Additionally, I express my gratitude to Linda Duggan (Deputy Chair, England) and Hilary Thompson (Deputy Chair, Northern Ireland), who are stepping down today. Their dedication and hard work have been invaluable to our progress.

Key Events and Initiatives

November 2023 Annual Online Conference and OGM: We successfully held our Annual Online Conference, followed by the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) the next day with good attendance. These events continue to provide a critical platform for valuable discussions and knowledge sharing within our ADNE and wider network.

ADNE SPQ Apprenticeship Support Group: Chaired by Louise, this group has been instrumental in providing guidance and support for full ADNE members who are either currently offering or developing SPQ DN apprenticeship programmes.

PAD Creation and Collaboration: The launch of the ADNE SPQ Practice Assessment Document (PAD) initiative has been a significant milestone. Crystal Oldman as CEO at The QNI has acknowledged our collaborative efforts in bringing the SPQ PAD to fruition.

ADNE Archive Project: Led by our formed Chair Julie Bliss this newly formed project group will over the next couple of years seek to build upon our existing archive to formally recognize and document ADNE’s contribution to the ongoing evolution and development of district nursing education.

June 2024 Summer Hybrid Conference: Yesterday's conference was a success, with 45-50 attendees in the room and up to 30 participants online. These gatherings are crucial for fostering community and advancing our goals. Our thanks go to the University of Derby for kindly agreeing to host this Event for us.

Executive Meetings

The ADNE Executive has continued to meet monthly, and these meetings have been pivotal in moving our initiatives forward. The consistent engagement and strategic discussions have been invaluable.

NDNN Connections: We are seeking to re-establish connections with the National District Nursing

Network (NDDN) and look forward to working closely with their new Chairs.

Collaborations and Future Directions

In conclusion, while the year has presented its challenges, the dedication and hard work of our members have ensured that ADNE continues to thrive and make meaningful progress. I am optimistic about the future and look forward to another productive year ahead.
