| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | The Charity has as its objective the advancement of education in mathematics for the public benefit through the provision of professional development for mathematics teachers and teacher educators in Africa. The mission of METEA is to improve the life chances of children by empowering teachers from the most deprived townships and rural areas to provide a better education for the children they teach. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
METEA raises funding for projects, conducted by educational charities and not-for-profit organisations in Africa, to support and empower teachers and teacher educators through the provision of professional development courses. Projects receiving support must share the ideal of a cooperative venture, in which all participants, educators, teachers and those providing facilities work together to ensure that the project delivers to its full potential at minimum cost. The courses introduce effective teaching and learning methods and materials and support teachers in disseminating this methodology within their communities. |
| Statement confirming whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit |
Para 1.18 | Yes, the trustees do have regard to the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission. |
