Registered Charity Number: 1183208

Objectives

The objects of Erase Meso (EM) are to promote and protect the physical and mental health of existing and future sufferers of Mesothelioma throughout the world through:

  1. Provision of financial assistance to scientific research aimed at finding a cure for Mesothelioma and/or controlling the non-financial impact of the disease on existing and future sufferers.

  2. Advancement of education and awareness of the general public in all areas relating to Mesothelioma.

Governance

EM is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, established on 1[st] May 2019, and operating according to a Constitution based on the ‘foundation’ model.

The charity trustees, listed above, make all key decisions and are the only voting members of the Organisation.

The trustees meet regularly to discuss both operational activities of EM and strategic initiatives and direction.

Events and Activities

During 2022 the Trustees initiated the process for establishing a Research Advisory Board to aid with the identification and selection of research projects to fund in line with the EM’s charity’s objectives.

The establishment of the Advisory Board was in part delayed by the continued disruption from Covid-19, in particular the impact on health professionals and demands on their time.

Despite the delay, the initiation of the process in 2022 has put the EM in an excellent position to start to fund scientific research into Mesothelioma from 2023 onwards.

Fundraising events and activities also took place in 2022, albeit on a limited basis due in part to the ongoing impact of Covid-19 and the focus on establishing the Advisory Board. EM was well supported by the general public and specific donations from generous supporters.

In addition to the fundraising, we continued to efforts to build partnerships with related charities.

Accounts

EM prepare accounts on a receipts and payments basis in line with Charities Commissions requirements.

For the period 1[st] January 2022 to 31[st] December 2022 funds of £19,024 were raised from events and donations.

Payments of £1,793 were deducted, relating to liability insurance, IT licences and fees deducted by payment and fundraising platforms. EM operates on a volunteer basis, and as such no payments were made for management or advisory services during 2022.

Overall excess of receipts over payments was £17,231, held as part of the cash and equivalents at balance date.

Other

The Trustees would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who have supported EM in our endeavour to raise funds for scientific research and to raise awareness of mesothelioma.
