## **- Friends of British Southern Cameroons Annual Report 2021 2022**

Friend of British Southern Cameroons is a charity set up primarily to assist the victims of the Southern Cameroons genocide who have been internally displaced or seeking refuge in other countries such as Nigeria. We carry out general charitable purposes, seek to prevent and relieve poverty among this vulnerable group and advocate for their Human Rights.

We were very fortunate to see remarkable growth after the adverse effects of COVID-19. The increase in the willingness of our communities to engage with the works of the charity has been heart-warming. We are extremely grateful to Lodge Park Academy, St Paul’s Catholic School and Sacred Heart Church, Leicester for their immense kindness, prayers, fundraising and donations to the victims of the ongoing genocidal war in Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia.

During this year, we continued raising awareness of the Southern Cameroons genocide and advocacy through our established social media platforms. This involved an outreach for education and sensitisation in local schools and churches. Social media was used to raise the profile of the humanitarian crisis and enabled us to carry out 3 main fundraising events which were a Sponsored half-marathon, virtual fundraiser and a tremendously successful charity launch event.

The charity launch event included a unique, live link up via Zoom with the Adagom1 refugee camp in Nigeria. Leicester based primary school

band LFK gave a very entertaining performance with their debut songs and choreography. Along with the scrumptious Southern Cameroonian cuisine, this event promoted and encouraged our local community and all participants to gain a greater insight and appreciation into the plight all the people of Southern Cameroons. In terms of education geographic knowledge, cultural knowledge as well as interactions with the refugees including children left a lasting impression on all who attended the event. During the live link with Nigeria, it was quite remarkable to hear the motivation aspirations and positivity emanating from the young children despite the adverse conditions in which they found themselves in the refugee camps with limited resources and security.

The sponsored half-marathon event raised funds for the women and children in the refugee camps. A huge thanks to Natalie and David for their resilience and endurance in training and running the Heaton Half Marathon. We extend our thanks for all family and friends who support and sponsored this exciting event.

Our charity carried out numerous outreaches to the refugees in Nigeria and the Internally Displaced People and children in Community schools in Southern Cameroons. These included supplying educational resources for children in all refugee camps, World Refugee Day, Konja Good Life Gari Processing Unit for making their own food and providing the refugee camps in Nigeria with food and resources for Christmas.

Furthermore, provisions were made for basic educational resources in various community schools in the Northern Zone and for medical assistance for cholera relief in the Southern Zone of British Southern Cameroons.
