Barton Community Band is a brass band comprising around 25 players. It is managed by a committee of volunteers, headed by a chairperson with an operating document of terms of reference by which it is run. The committee holds meetings every month, at which minutes are taken, and an Annual General Meeting to which all the playing members of the band are invited. The band also runs a Training Band which is organised by committee members and supported by a Band Leader and the Senior Band Musical Director. Players in the Training band are recruited at sessions held by the band in conjunction with the local council in school holidays and are part-financed by generous donations.
The band has organised a number of concerts during the year, playing to supplement funds, and also as charity events. It is also booked to play locally at events organised by the local town council. Engagements during the summer of 2024 saw the band play as far North as Burnby Hall near York and South at Metheringham in Lincolnshire.
The bands objectives are to build on their local reputation as an enjoyable band to listen to and to improve its prospects at the area contest of the National Brass Band Championships.
In March 2025 the band secured fourth place at the North of England Area Brass Band Championships. Throughout the year the band has been seen locally on Remembrance Day and at Christmas.
Financial accounts are kept by the Band Treasurer and accounts are audited annually to the required level. The band does not have a Reserves Policy and no funds are held by or for custodian trustees.
