Objectives and Activities
Purpose defined in Governing Documents
The Governing Documents for the charity are the Parochial Church Councils (Powers) Measure 1956,
as amended and The Church Representation Rules, which are contained in Schedule 3 of the
Synodical Government Measure 1969, as amended. The documents define the principal purpose of
the Parochial Church Council of Friarmere, St. Thomas is'promoting in the parish the whole mission
of the Church"
Main Activities
The PCC continues to provide a place of worship which is used for public services on Sundays and
other days. The PCC provides children's and young people's groLbPS on a regular basis during the
main Sunday morning service anrj 'Fresh Expression, services such as 'Me55y Church, are provided
approximately bimonthly. Other ceremonies such as the celebration or marriage, funerals and
baptism services are also provided.
The PCC provides and maintains a churchyard which is open for burials for residents of the
ecclesiastical parish.
The church provides education on our Christian faith including provision of educational visits to local
schools.
Missionary and evangelical activities are undertaken and supported.
The church provides pastoral care and outreach to residents of the ecclesiastical parish and the
wider community, including..
Visits to the sick, bereaved and housebound.
Visits to care homes.
A weekly youth 'drop in, group, operating in term time.
A weekly coffee morning, aimed at alleviating social isolation.
Support of the local 'Street Pastors, scheme.
The PCC provides and maintains the church and church hall which are used for community activities
including:
Weekly Craft groups
Weekly Fitness classes
Weekly Dance classes
Ad hoc band rehearsals
The PCC is a grant maker distributing IO% of its general income to other charitable causes.

Pub,:ic Benefit
The PCC'S charitable objects {'Promoting in the ecclesiastical parish the whole mission of the
Churth'l are primarily focused on the advancernent of religion. which is recognised as a
charitable purpose havin8 public benefit. All re8ular public worship is provided free of charge
and open to all. In addition, the PCC'S activities as listed above have further public benefits,. for
example, teaching and takin8 assemblies offer advancement of education which is recognised as
charitsble purpose having public benefit. Donations to other charities and our own projects
provide public benefits in the relief of poverty and need, whether within or outside the
ecdeslaStical parish. often for minority groups With particular needs such as the elderly.
Additional achievements
Throughout the year the PCC continued with major reordering of the church and hall which are
aimed at improving accessibility of the buildings for people with impaired mobility, and improved
facilities for community and church use.
Financial Review
Review of the charity's financial position at the end of the period.
Total income for the charity during the year was approximately £57k, which 15 consistent with
'normal' income for the PCC.
During the year the PCC continued to pay 100% of the requested Parish Share to the Diocese of
Manchester and met all its other financial obligations.
Poliry on Reserves.
At 31" December 2023 the PCC held approximately £21k in its bank actount,. it 15 envisaged that this
will all be used in planned work to the church west window. The PCC currently envisages further
reduced reserves at the end of 2024.
Going concern.
There are no concerns about the ongoing viability of the charity. The PCC envisages that the charity
will continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

The Governing Documents for the charity are the Parochial Church Countils (Powers) Measure 1956,
as amended and The Church Representation Rules, which are contained in Schedule 3 of the
Synodical Government Measure 1969, a5 amended.

The composition of the PCC li.e. its trustees) is stipulated in the governing documents. It includes:
All clerks in Holy Orders in the benefice
The churchwardens, elected annuallv
Lay members of deanery, diocesan or general synods who are on the electoral roll of the
parish

Nine elected representatives of the laity, three of whom are elected each year for a term of
three years

an exwnination carried out in accordance with th¢ Church A¢￿unting Regulations 2006 (the regulations) and
section 43 of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act)

As members of the PCC you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements" you consider that
an audit is not required for this yw under the Regulations and under section 43(2) of the 1993 Act and that
an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to issue this reFrf)rt on those financial stAiements
in accordance with the tenns of the Regulations.
BAgiS of ihis re￿rt
My examination wa5 ca￿le￿j out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 43(7yb) of the 1993 Act and to be found in the Church guidance, 2006 edition. That
examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the PCC and a wmparison of the accounts
with those records. It also includes considering any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements
and se¢king explanations from you ￿ trust¢¢s ¢onc¢rning any such matters. Th¢ pro¢¢dur¢s undertaken do
not provide all the evidence that would be required of an audit and ￿nSequentlY I do not express an audit
opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examlner'8 8tatement
In connection with my examination no matter has come to my attention:
(l ) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material re5F￿t the requirements
to keep accounting r￿rdS in accordance with seLtion 41 of the 1993 ACL and
to prepare financial statements which a¢cord with the accounting and comply with the
requirements of the 1993 Act and Regulations
have not been met. or
(2) to which. in my opinioN attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the
accounts to ￿ reached.
