## **Report of the trustees for the period ended 31[st] December 2021** 

The trustees of Lordsway Foundation present their report and financial statements for the period ended 31[st] December 2021.  The income for the charity is below the threshold that requires independent examination, but as a charitable incorporated organisation we are required to present an annual report. 

This is the third report since registration on 25[th] April 2019. 

## **Objects and activities** 

The objects of the CIO are: 

To advance the Christian faith for the benefit of the public in accordance with the Statement of Beliefs appearing below mainly, but not exclusively through the provision of facilities for Christian training and service and the provision of assistance to the wider Christian church in its ministries in such parts of Africa and the world as the Trustees may from time to time think fit and to fulfil such other purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the law of England and Wales and are connected with the charitable work of the charity. 

## **Statements of Beliefs** 

1. The one true God who lives eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. 

2. The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world. 

3. The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God – fully trustworthy for faith and conduct. 

4. The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement. 

5. The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – born of the virgin Mary, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin. 

6. The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God. 

7. The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world. 

8. The justification of sinners solely by the grace of the God through faith in Christ. 

9. The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness. 

10. The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers – given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love. 

11. The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth. 



## **The main activities in the reporting period** 

2021 was a year of continued fruitful partnership between Lordsway Ministries International, a Zambian registered church ministry and Lordsway Foundation. 

The vision of Lordsway Foundation is to work in partnership and support to enable and empower local ministries and organisations to do the work to which they are called.  Through partnership with Lordsway Ministries we have been able to open up opportunities for ministry that would otherwise have been impossible or severely restricted because of lack of local funding resources. 

We have also been able to provide practical assistance to pastors whose local churches are not able to fully support them and release them for the work of leadership and ministry.  This has taken the form of regular allowances to help with the costs of family upkeep, transport and other essential expenses.  This is not an adequate income but is an assistance to offset the constantly rising costs of living. 

The COVID-19 pandemic had a dramatic impact on Lordsway Ministries in that the General Secretary, Pastor Kenneth Mukupa, was seriously ill as a result of infection and was hospitalised, close to death.  The trustees authorised a release of funds to cover the costs of his hospitalisation and treatment and as a result made a full recovery.  A good example of how partnership is able to achieve that which could not be managed by the local organisation alone. 

We invested in a number of trans-local church visits and projects, to new churches within the network and also to bolster and encourage the work of long-standing church congregations. These visits involved sending teams to Nakonde and Kasama in the north of Zambia and to Lusaka, the capital city.  Kasama was visited twice in the year.  There were also visits made and teams sent to Ndola, Chimwemwe and Nkana in the Copperbelt Province, more local to Mufulira, and there were evangelistic projects in Luansobe, Kankoyo and central Mufulira, all within the metropolitan area of Mufulira itself. 

Lordsway Ministries has been training a group of potential leaders and missionaries on a two year programme, and it was these students that in large part, formed the teams that were able to visit these places. 

During Nick and Erica Lugg’s visit in November 2021, there was a graduation ceremony, celebrating the achievements of this group.  There was also an ordination for three new pastors, one of which is dedicated to the development of youth work, a key part of the future development strategy. 

We were further able to strengthen the broader work of Lordsway Ministries with support for office expenditure and the maintenance and running of their vehicle. 

As mentioned, we were able to make a visit for the first time in two years with a two week visit for Nick and Erica Lugg in November 2021. 



## **Statement on Public Benefit** 

The trustees confirm they have had regard to and understood the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. 

## **Contribution made by volunteers** 

The charity has no paid staff in the UK, so all work in the charity’s interest and time spent on overseas visits are all done on a voluntary basis.  The charity aims to reimburse reasonable expenses. 

## **Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period** 

The attached statement of accounts demonstrates that the charity was able to meet its commitments during the reporting period.  The charity’s current position is relatively secure since it has no contractual obligations, rather a commitment to use the resources it has to the greatest effect. 

## **Reserves Policy** 

The trustees do not have a current reserves policy as there are no contractual obligations on the charity.  Nevertheless the ongoing effectiveness of the charity depends on financial stability and so the aspiration towards an effective financial reserve will be standing item on the trustees agenda. 

## **Description of the charity’s trusts** 

The charity is governed by a constitution and is a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). Trustees are appointed by the board according to the provisions of the constitution which state; 

_(1) Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. (2) In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO._
