## _**CHARITY OVERVIEW**_
Bricks supports the collaboration of local communities, creative communities and social enterprises to ensure they have a strong voice in the city of Bristol, together instigating and delivering creative community activities and managing building assets for the long term.
## _**CHARITABLE OBJECTS**_
The object of the CIO is to advance the arts for the public benefit through the establishing and maintaining of an art gallery, the promotion of contemporary art, the education of the public in the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art and the provision of workspace and services to artists.

Bricks trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the charities commission in exercising their powers and duties.

## _**ACTIVITIES & ACHIEVEMENTS**_
The main activities undertaken by Bricks to further its charitable purposes for the public benefit are:
- Set up and launch of St Annes House as a creative and community hub:
- Setting up tenant spaces and recruiting tenants
- Starting arts programme and communities programme
- Public Art & Creative Infrastructure Consultancy - developed and expanded.
- Continuing negotiations with Bristol City Council to secure St Annes House as a long term asset for local and creative communities.

In accordance with Bricks Constitution we would have followed the following procedure: _Appointment of charity trustees:_
_(1) Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees._
_(2) In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO._
_Information for new charity trustees:_
_The charity trustees will make available to each new charity trustee, on or before his or her first appointment:_
_(a) a copy of the current version of the constitution; and_
_(b) a copy of the CIO’s latest Trustees’ Annual Report and statement of accounts._

## _**DIRECTOR’S REPORT**_
April 2021 - April 2022 has seen significant growth and development at Bricks, with us being able to test out ideas and partnerships at St Annes House.
Team wise we grew from three part time employees to seven part time staff and an addition six on casual hours, totalling approx 5 FTE.
## _St Annes House_
_In June 2021 we moved into St Annes House and began recruiting tenants, bringing the building into compliance and fitting it out for use. Initially modelling on the top two floors, demand outstripped supply and we took on the ground floor also._
_Tenants were chosen to find a strong mix of use and occupiers, on the principles of 1) a commitment to a creative practice, 2) a local connection or 3) a charity or social enterprise practice._
_Key Tenants include Bristol Cooperative Gym, MAYK Theatre, East Bristol Contemporary, individual artists and makers, Ubuntu Playroom, and Studio Mothership._
_We also launched a public programme at St Annes House, with a mixture of projects produced by Bricks via funding, projects facilitated by Bricks in a light touch way, and projects that use St Annes House as a venue for hire._
_Some key projects include Morning Meet Ups, RELAY, Transactionland, Superdooper St Annes FC, Gather St Annes, and Palace Film Festival._
_Public Art and Creative Infrastructure_
- _Contract to deliver phase 1 of consultancy for Whitfield Tabernacle Trust early in this period, then a second contract for phase 2 scoped out in later part._
- _Public Art projects include:_
- _Moxy, St Pauls_
- _St Gabriels Court, Easton_
- _Trinity Academy, Lockleaze_
- _Roseneath Gardens, Stoke Gifford._

## _**BRICKS TRADING LIMITED**_
On 11 December 2019 Bricks Trading Limited (Company Number 12359038) was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Bricks CIO. Bricks CIO Trustees Kim Wide and Russell King are the sole directors of Bricks Trading Limited . Bricks Trading Limited was primarily incorporated to protect the assets of the charity while undertaking trading activities such as public art commissions and art sales. In 2021-2022 Bricks Trading Limited entered into contracts to deliver programmes of public art, as well as entering contracts with tenants, hirers of spaces at St Annes House.

## Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Bricks CIO
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Bricks CIO for the year ended 4 April 2022.
## Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the CIO accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the CIO as required by section 130 of the Act;
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
