The charity’s objects (‘the objects’) are: To act as a resource for young people living in Furness and the surrounding areas by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of physical, educational and other activities as a means of: (a) advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals; (b) advancing education; (c) relieving unemployment.

The charity’s activities are designed to: 

- equip local young people with knowledge, skills and aspirations relevant to a competitive 21st century market-place 

- - enable and drive enterprise, innovation and long-term growth in the local, regional and national economy

- raise awareness of potential career pathways for young people, not only in the minds of young people themselves, but also in the

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Our charity worked with schools in each of the five wards in Barrow in Furness that fall within the 10% most deprived areas in England. We regularly work with 25 primary schools, 6 secondary schools and 1 college. 

Furness Education & Skills Partnership (FESP) has continued to build partnerships with many local schools and education providers as well as the business community, with the involvement of many new organisations in project delivery. 

The FESP team operate at the forefront of innovative thinking and have continued to work with national partners and the Department for Education in terms of research, project design and best practice delivery. Much work has also been undertaken on governance and policies & procedures to ensure excellence in all we do, this work has enabled the charity to secure multiyear core funding to continue the sustainable delivery of key programmes. 

It has been a year of incredible success in delivery, the team is proud to have 100% of secondary schools and 80% of primary schools locally working with us and collectively FESP has delivered 6,328 learning outcomes. Programmes such as Build My Skills, the Barrow Engineering Project and the BDAE bursary scheme have continued successfully and the new Step up and Play programme, enabling children from four schools in the central ward of Barrow to access sports has been a huge success, even winning a ‘Cumbria Sport Award’. 

UlverSTEM and the Furness STEM show remain annual highlights with over 2,500 attendees across the two events in Ulverston and Barrow. Feedback for these events is extremely positive from young people, schools and parents and support from the business community delivering hands on activities and careers information continues to grow. By delivering the Barrow Engineering Project we provided funding for 11 primary schools and 6 secondary schools to participate in Tomorrow’s Engineers Week and British Science Week.

The principle source of funds is from grants to support specific projects. The grants relate to the objectives of the charity. 

All grants have KPIs and these in turn are related to the charity’s objectives.  The charity reports on the KPIs to the funders. Without the support of the funders the charity would not be able to achieve its objectives. 

The expenditure is directly related to the grant KPIs. 

The charity has no investments but if it did in the future, it would adopt an ethical investment policy.
